Peaky Blinders - Netflix's new Breaking Bad PBS style!

Anyone else watch this series? My husband and I just finished the last episode of the second season last night. The setting is Birmingham England in the 1920’s, not too long after World War I. The focus is on the Shelby family who are pretty much gypsy mobsters. The main character is Thomas Shelby, a bad guy with a heart of gold. More blood, guts and sex than I like but the storyline is intriguing as are the characters. We put on subtitles after watching about three episodes of the first season - we were pausing a lot to discuss what may have been said. The English and Irish accents are not the easiest to understand. I’d love to talk about the last episode but will hold off on this post to avoid spoilers!

I’m hooked! I binge-watched all 3 seasons on NetFlix. Waiting for S4 is going to kill me.

It’s the anti-Downton Abbey.

My D and her bf are hooked on this show. It’s on my list to watch at some point.

My sister in law recommended it to us. It is on our (well, my) list to watch this fall. I’m looking forward to it.

We blasted through Stranger Things twice this month. The second time after we convinced our daughter to binge with us before she left for college.

We love the ability to binge on shows, but darn, waiting for the next season becomes excruciating!

I love this show and am now watching it again only this time with my dh. I love the music they use to set the scenes and it’s usually music I wouldn’t ordinary listen to. We put the captions on because otherwise I can’t understand some of the characters.

The theme song, “Red Right Hand” couldn’t be more perfect! Hard to believe it was written 20 years ago.

We watched at least three episodes before putting on the closed captions, after that we went back and watched the first three again. The lead character mumbles and speaks with a pretty heavy accent. Here’s something weird though, this was a series that my husband and I both loved and couldn’t wait for season three to come out. When it did, we watched the first episode and just didn’t feel the same way about it. We’re going to give it another go once it feels like fall and the evenings are longer. I agree about the music, it really sets the tone.

OK… you guys piqued my interest. H and I started tonight and watched the first two episodes and are liking it so far. For those who recommended the closed caption or subtitles… good call!

With it getting dark so early now, I don’t mind getting back into a binge series where we watch a couple of episodes a night.

Appreciate the recommendation. Watched the first season this week, with subtitles on from the start; we agree that they are helpful. Enjoying it so far and looking forward to seeing how it goes.
