*Penn Class of 2020 Early Decision Discussion*

Out of all the early action/decision threads I’ve visited, I’ve got to say, this is the most active/fun/neurotic one. Us Penn ED applicants are like one big happy dysfunctional family and I sincerely hope we all get in even though that’s probably not going to happen…and now back to six hours of AP Bio HW…

By the way-how many ED applicants actually get deferred?

@computerage

I submitted my app two hours before midnight on the day of the deadline and my friend submitted it an hour before I did. I got contacted for an interview a few days go but he still hasn’t been contacted. We go to the same school. So it seems pretty random. I’d happily trade places with him though haha. I’m so nervous.

Hey guys I just made my account, I’m from MD (DC metro area) and I havent gotten contacted for an interview yet either. It would suck to be in the like 9% of applicants that dont get offered one lol but at least the admissions officers know who got one and who didnt.

@emilyskates Feel ya. I got about 2-3 hours of Spanish homework left for tomorrow.
@wademike927 Yep. That’s the consolation prize.

Hi, I have applied ED for M&T (primary) and Wharton (secondary). I have gotten an interview for M&T and gave it 2 weeks ago, but have not been contacted for a Wharton interview. Can anyone shed light on this? Do students who apply to both typically get 1 or 2 interviews? I’m really WORRIED!

@texanhowler You only have 1 interview (at most). Also, if M&T = Dual degree between SEAS & Wharton, IMO your M&T interview already “counts” as a Wharton interview as well.

There is only 1 interview.

@jarrett211 - It isn’t clear which phone number the interviewer will call. I gave my cell phone and my Dad’s cell phone as main numbers but the interviewer called the home #. The home phone is one we typically never picks up and most of the junk calls go there:-).

Out of sheer luck (I would say), my mom picked up the phone and it was the interviewer. As I understand, the interviewer first makes contact (either by calling or text) and then sets up an appointment and then sends the email to confirm the details.

It is a pain to keep waiting but there is still time till Thanksgiving.

IMHO, even if you didn’t get interviewed, this should be not considered as negative. You have a strong application backed by a legacy factor, which is a great strength.

Did anyone apply to NETs?

Had my interview this past Saturday. Went amaaazing
For anyone scheduled to have an interview in the future, don’t fret. It’s less of an interview and more like a casual conversation with an old friend.

Lol now 10 days after my interview, I just got an email from my interviewer asking me to send her my resume because it might help her write my report

Hmm that’s actually interesting, maybe I’ll send my interviewer my resume just in case @TheWaffleMan149

Yeah. Like I said, my whole interview situation was strange

@shivaya Wait, so this is the first I’m hearing that they call first and then email. Will they always email an applicant in case a phone call was never answered?

@jarrett211 - At least, that’s what happened in my case. My interviewer called my home #, discussed and we agreed upon the location to meet and then sent me an email confirming this.

Read this link. Should answer many of your questions.
http://www.alumni.upenn.edu/s/1587/gid2/index_sticky.aspx?sid=1587&gid=2&pgid=1183#panel7

Read: “Contacting applicants & scheduling interviews” and “Some tips on interviews and reports”.

According to the above link, they can initiate contact using any of the available information (email, phone, etc). It is also clear that they will try to contact 3 times during a period of 7-10 days.

I thoroughly enjoyed my time (>75 minutes) with the interviewer and felt reassured that I did not make any mistake with ED to UPenn. I honestly felt that interview is a way of knowing the applicant at a ground level, listen to their passions, understand their future goals and make sure that they all match up to what UPenn stands for.

No need to BS - Be Honest & Just Be Your Self!

Would it be a good idea just to send along a resume to the interviewer even if he/she didn’t ask for one? It’s been almost 10 days after my interview and she hasn’t tried to get into contact with me (I think she will only if she has questions/concerns).

There is no need for the interviewer to get in touch again if they have got all the answers. So, @shadyconcepts - you don’t have anything to be concerned.

For those who haven’t had their interviews yet - Wish you the very best!

All those who have finished their interviews simply need to keep their fingers crossed, be calm and hang in there till December 15th or earlier.

@shadyconcepts I am probably going to write him a quick thank you email and attach the resume just in case. Sounds like a good idea. They have more info and our report will most likely be better and more detailed, win win

@shivaya Decisions are released December 11th. Also, great link. Thanks. I’m 100% positive I have not received an email offer from an interviewer, so if they do email, email, phone, then it must not be a mistake.

Yeah I haven’t received anything yet. I guess it’s not a huge deal if I don’t get one but it is a bit disappointing and frustrating.
