*Penn Class of 2020 Early Decision Discussion*

My next choice is Columbia for sure. Then it kind of gets murky for me. I applied to UChicago. 100% guarantee I get rejected from there. Then I have WashU, Georgetown, and NYU. And then safeties. Honestly, if I don’t end up at Penn, I’ll probably end up at NYU.

ahhh I also did Chicago, but the other schools I considered SCEA/ED were Princeton and Dart D: I have some more realistic schools I’m looking at too ofc

@jarrett211 Save for NYU (because I’m tired of the city) and Columbia (same reason) we’re pretty much applying to the same schools haha… I did Bing/UMich as safeties for early. Started writing my supps right now and they’re awfully tedious for some schools (cough cough Stanford). I’ve cut out like five colleges from my list just because I don’t want to do their supps…

@ComputerAge Yeah, I kind of want to cut out Tufts because I don’t want to do their supplement. Not really a good fit, but my dad really wants me to apply there for some reason.

If I have time after I finish Harvard and UMich, I’m doing Yale and Princeton as well :stuck_out_tongue:
Why not? XD

Also we have 67 pages in this group and we’re still about 2.5 weeks away from the decision… I think we’ve definitely set a record of sorts. I know posts increase in frequency as d-day nears.

Just think about how many posts will accumulate in the few hours before the decisions are released alone @ComputerAge

Actually, likely letters also extend to locally distinguished students I think. The admin on a Penn fb group got one, and I don’t think she’s an athlete, but I could be wrong.

Is anyone else thinking NYU Stern ED II should they not get into Penn?

I certainly hope that Penn doesn’t have the same issue that CMU had last year
They accidentally admitted 800 more students than they had room for. How terrible would it be if the same thing happened with Penn?

YES!!!. That’s the plan. I love everything about NYU, except the fact that they don’t offer much FA - especially to OOS applicants. And, that makes it expensive.

And, so its perfect for ED2.

@nodaysoff97 I’m really really (and I mean really) tempted to do that. The only problem is that I would much prefer to go to Columbia over NYU and I’m quite sure I’ll get into NYU, but I don’t think I’ll get into Columbia RD. I have that like 5% hope though. Also, isn’t the RD acceptance rate and the ED acceptance rate for NYU the same?

@thewaffleman I heard about that. Words cannot describe how horrible I would feel if I were “accidentally” admitted and then rejected :frowning:

@shivaya True. Personally though, I’d be willing to take on debt; coming out of Stern I don’t think paying loans back would be too hard.

@jarrett211 not sure about ED II vs. RD acceptance rate. I’d rather go to Columbia, too, but, realistically speaking, any of us would probably be more likely to get into NYU.

Plot twist: what if you get deferred from Penn? Do you ED II Stern… or? idk what’d I do.

@shivaya I thought NYU is 100% private, so OOS/in-state doesn’t make a difference for FA.

@nodaysoff97 If you’re deferred, you’re thrown in the regular decision pool for Penn (except you don’t get waitlisted). If you do EDII for NYU, you can’t go to Penn (It would suck if you were accepted in the regular pool).

To waitlist after a deferral would be too cruel

Someone mentioned in other threads that Penn promised that no waitlist for the deferral.

I heard that too, but I believe that HYP do also waitlist (probably due to their insane amounts of SCEA deferrals)

NYU has a few scholarships for NY state students (including merit based). But they are not available for OOS.

Odds of getting into Wharton RD probably aren’t particularly great. At that point, I would hate to do so, but I I’d play it safe and ED II Stern. And, yes my life would be over if I got into NYU and Penn and then couldn’t go to Penn. @toffys
