*Penn Class of 2020 Early Decision Discussion*

last year ED deferrals that got in RD were 155 out of 5.4k, according to Penn’s site. It’s safe to say you’ll most likely not get in w/ that ~2% acceptance rate :frowning:

Im having the same delima @nodaysoff97 deferral from Penn would make the ED 2 decision to Stern soo much harder. Based on percentages though I would probably do Stern ED if I was deferred

@nodaysoff97 Actually, 5.4K is the total number of ED applicants, and from what I’ve heard only about 20-23% get deferred. That makes it closer to a 9% acceptance rate of deferred EDers, which is higher than the normal RD acceptance rate

i feel @rosewood98. 115 is still low though.

lmao guys, Penn isn’t need-blind

@nodaysoff97 Definitely. I won’t be super hopeful if I get deferred, but it’s nice to know that it doesn’t completely trash your chances of getting in RD (at least compared to other competitive schools’ acceptance rates)

"last year ED deferrals that got in RD were 155 out of 5.4k, according to Penn’s site. It’s safe to say you’ll most likely not get in w/ that ~2% acceptance rate "

It’s not quite that bad @nodaysoff97 . You shouldn’t be dividing by 5.4K (all early applicants) but rather the number deferred which I estimate to be 21% or 1134. So IF you are deferred you still have a 13.7% chance of being accepted.

And DP published this:
“Acceptance rates for deferred early applicants are typically a few percentage points higher than overall regular decision acceptance rates, Furda added.”

i see what u guys mean by the dividing by 5.4k now. my bad

Does anyone know anything about Benjamin Franklin Scholars? 17 days 20 hours 8 mins I’m literally dying

I was scheduled to meet my interviewer in a week but last minute she emailed me saying because I’m an ED applicant we needed to do it tonight. I finished it up just now and it was right around 45 minutes long. I think the beginning went very well, it flowed and it definitely was casual and unforced. Towards the end I did start to panic because I wanted the best possible impression so I started to speak a little faster and say Umm a lot. But overall I am happy with the way it went. I told her that even though her Penn report will be sent out, I still want to meet her in person next week. I genuinely do want to meet her but is that a good call on my part? That I didn’t just want to be a phone call but put a face to my voice. Essentially I want to thank her for her time in person and probs give her a small box of chocolates (too much?)

@toffys whoa where did you find that? That whole table makes me feel nervous

@nodaysoff97 You also didn’t consider the fact that some kids may have given up and went for EDII or changed their minds while working on RD for other schools.

@rosewood98 There’s even a page where there’s a login to see ALL RESULTS. There’s even a status page for the database. It says that it’s being updated/changed at the moment.

What is that table @toffys I don’t really understand what it is

@thewaffleman149 It’s what admissions fills in from info taken from Common App

It looks like Penn uses Cornell’s style of Admissions. One guy reads it, 2nd guy reads it, then main committee makes the final decision.

Is this chart helpful to us for something? Just wondering if I can use it in any way

Ugh I know they have to do it with so many applicants, but being reduced to numbers and turned into a data point makes me uncomfortable

Here’s some bone-chilling stuff. Show’s what admissions is doing with the computers.

@thewaffleman149 It’s only helpful for High school freshmen lol. It pretty much shows what Penn looks for.
