*Penn Class of 2020 Early Decision Discussion*

@jarrett211 I think maybe you can just apply to one or some of those schools? It would be less work since you’re not applying to all of those, and you still have some extra security. A happy middle ground perhaps?

Hey so I may have a problem,

I sent in my sat scores in early november but I didnt send in all my subject test scores, so a few days later I sent another score report with all scores but that score report is still pending. Do you think penn threw my app out already bc i didnt report some subject scores initially but i sent in another report that CB still hasnt sent?

^^No, i don’t think they’ll throw them out because of that.

@jkman101 I’m pretty sure that most people’s score reports to Penn are “pending.” I called Penn admissions yesterday and I was told that in most cases they have received the scores even though it says pending. He said he could only check SAT score reports, not SAT subject test reports since they are required. So even though idk if Penn got your subject test scores, I think you’re fine

since they are not required*

@jarrett211 - Agree that Columbia is a better school (overall) and more prestigious. Here is an interesting link:

Hope this helps.

@shivaya Great article. I’m really going to look into it closely.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but when people say “you’ll be great at whatever school you end up” they essentially mean “hey, you didn’t get in. Sucks. Now, forget about it.” Fact of the matter is students who end up at universities like Penn on average do very well in their endeavors. Sure, one will probably do well post-college at whatever institution he/she ends up at, but one likely will not do as well/have the same opportunities as a Penn grad right out of college. I’m the type who wants to do well in the near future; I would rather not have to work hard af for a 4.0 at a meh school, try to find a decent job, and then hope to get into a great grad school.

Anyone else slightly annoyed by “you’ll be great at whatever school you end up”? Also, feel free to convince me otherwise

-this spiel most likely came from relatives at thanksgiving dinner asking me about college. lol

@nodaysoff97 Few things annoy me that much. I also hate when they outright tell me to forget about it. I have worked for the last 10 years unconsciously and consciously for this moment. Sorry, but I’m not just going to forget about it

I mean they only say it to make you feel better. When people say that they have good intentions. What else are they supposed to say if you’re rejected? “You suck as a human being, you didn’t deserve to get in”? I agree with you that one would have a better experience and more opportunities at Penn, but what are you supposed to do if you’re rejected? Life needs to go on and you have to apply to other schools, and people say “you’ll do great at wherever you end up” simply because there’s nothing better to say.
Yes, it is a kind of lie when you say “I will be completely happy and successful at wherever I end up.” But sometimes you just have to accept the lie because obviously, according to the stats, about 75% of us will be rejected.

I would honestly just prefer them not say anything

@nodaysoff97 Honestly I’m 51% Penn and 49% USC. Coming from Southern California, if I were accepted to both, I would have a stronger feeling to attend a school I’ve visited multiple times. However, because Wharton seems to have more reputation internationally and because it has an Early Decision option, I’ve opted towards this school. If I get rejected by Penn, it wouldn’t hurt too much (I’d be depressed for about a couple of days), but I still have a close 2nd that I’m aiming for. USC is more of a match school for me, and their WBB program is very attractive (3 degrees from 3 international schools in 4 years).

Getting rejected by USC and Penn would be very sad however.

About to put Where the Sidewalk Ends by Shel Silverstein as my favorite book for Princeton
That, or the Communist Manifesto

Should I self report my scores from their website if my reports are pending?

I did just in case, doesn’t hurt anything

I think I already know the answer to this, but just in case:

If we are deferred ED and accepted RD, does the ED binding contract still apply?

And then, unrelated question, do you think the FA is better during RD, because ED students are already contractually obligated to attend and there is no incentive to give them higher packages? How are you guys planning on paying for Penn?

I’m pretty sure they’ll consider SAT II subject tests if you send them, but whether or not you have them doesn’t make that big of a difference since they aren’t required but if you do have them then they’ll be factored into the admissions process.

My subject tests might be the weakest part of my application, besides a somewhat low GPA  I wish I didn’t auto-send them especially since I’m now finding out how unimportant they are

@TheWaffleMan149 put mein kampf, Princeton will be impressed you can read German
Auto-admit

@crimsonwarrior nope, not binding anymore
