How does this stats help for Smeal UP in state student? 3.7 Unweighted, 4.16 weighted. Total 10 AP classes 5 in senior year. Doing AP calculus AB only in senior year, not sure if they see this as negative, finished AP stats in Junior year. Good SAT scores 1530. Thanks

Wondering if anyone knows how hard it is to get into Graphic Design at UP? A friend applied Smeal, got 2+2. He asked for reconsideration in Graphic Design. Mid SAT (I think like 1280), GPA like 3.5. OOS. Has his own business on Instagram which requires a lot of graphic design.

If there aren’t Smeal UP acceptances on this thread, I do know at least one local student (in state) who was accepted to Smeal UP.

I don’t think I’ve seen any Smeal, UP, Fall start on here other than what you just posted. However, I have really only been looking at engineering… so don’t quote me.

good to know. Does PSU allow one to update their info, provide more info etc. if deferred?

there are a few Smeal acceptances on the DECISION thread … can’t remember if they were IS or OOS.

@j9yank. Don’t know about anything about graphic design. sorry. I think it might require a portfolio submission, so making sure he is aware and on top of that.

I feel exactly the same

Hopefully admissions will drop a bunch of decisions today. Fingers crossed :crossed_fingers:

Ditto! And we’re just the EA pool. Can you imagine the waiting for the RD pool?

hoping for that too. no decision on my end yet.

I would be surprised if this applicant was rejected by Smeal. It looks very competitive to me. Keep us posted.

We will hear by the 24th. They have promised that everyone who is EA and didn’t receive the deferral will get an answer.

Are they done doing deferrals? I thought Penn State didn’t really defer kids

I’d love to say the above is true. A direct message, first hand, was yes the 24th, but if they need more time, a student would be notified. Just setting expectations.

I will caveat this post, with the fact that my posts have been removed before for not being necessarily civil…which I disagree with, but respect the moderators. I assume most on here are concerned parents (as an I) with a smaller percentage of students. We are here on this board because we want the best for our kids. The moderators have stated it’s not 12/23 yet….well, it will be soon and I know (well almost sure) that some of you will be here after 12/23 with the same status (or at least a status of deferred). Having said all of that, you found this board, you are all intelligent. You have other tools out there to put your kid in the best spot possible to get a decision prior to (or at) the 12/23 deadline without contacting the University Park admission office. Put your thinking caps on and use the tools the are available. Again, this is no guarantee, but put yourself in the best position possible…otherwise you will wait. It won’t be all of you, but some for sure. There are other offices University-wide that can at least help you navigate. I guarantee nothing, the admissions people are working hard….this I know and trust me when I tell you, they don’t want the squeaky wheels calling them after the deadline. I don’t work for the school, the moderators probably disagree with me. I’ll ask the moderators this…what will you tell this board when 12/23 comes and goes with people here still asking ā€œWhy meā€? I’d love to know which parent in this current status still disagrees with me. I don’t have a horse in the race. We have our decisions…FWIW.
