Penn State Early Action for Fall 2024 Admissions

So we should all hear one of these three answers :grimacing:

Same, I am IS, and I know 2 ppl who got smeal fall start up. One had 35 ACT 10 APs, other 1570 14 APs both had similar gpas, maybe like 96-97 unweighted average. Solid ecs and competitions as well.

I’m not sure I understand your post. There is nothing a parent or student can do to speed up the admissions process. There is no other office at the University that has anything to do with admissions…except admissions (or perhaps a coach for a recruited athlete).

What will I tell a student If Dec 24 comes and they have not heard anything? First, I will verify with them that ALL of their materials were in by Nov 1. Every year we have students here who are so upset they didn’t hear by the EA date and it turns out that they didn’t have everything submitted in time and they are actually in the RD pool. Secondly - if it turns out that they did have everything in in time and they still didn’t hear by the deadline, then I will be angry right along with them because that is not acceptable and Penn State should have done better in that case. A reminder that a DEFERRAL IS STILL A DECISION.

We are not here to say Penn State is perfect. There are issues that I, and others, are well aware of. But what we also know is that often there are complaints about things that are either (a) not Penn State’s fault, (b) false information, or (c) resulting in a lack of research on the part of the poster (thinking financial aid and costs here). In those cases, we (and I’m using ā€œweā€ to be those of us who have been here for a decade helping students) will attempt to correct the record so that students understand.

Sometimes the responses to those corrections are less than civil and therefore the posts will be removed - although it’s important to note that I don’t remove posts. There are moderators above me who work for CC that do that work. They only do it when necessary. I am a volunteer. I manage the boards, keep things civil, and give accurate information without speculation on factors that no one can know unless they work in admissions. I had to apply for this volunteer position and my posts had to be researched for factual information before I was allowed to be the de facto ā€œleaderā€ of this group. There are many leaders here though who have just as much information, if not more, than I do but for obvious reasons did not want to deal with all involved in ā€˜moderating’ this page.
Rumor, innuendo, and speculation do not help anyone. It often just confuses people and causes continued stress and anxiety.

Why would a moderator owe me any sort of explain as to why I am still here after 12/23? If I am still here its because my kid got deferred (which I believe is a decision to review my kids app with regular decision (not at all happy with that decision, but its still a decision:( That is not a moderator’s issue to explain to me, thats life. It also not a decision we want (nobody does). My child has seen kids getting accepted for weeks. It stings, but she can handle it. Absolutely not happy about it, but she knows the deadline and that she can receive one of 3 answers as stated above by 12/24. But yes…I would be very annoyed if we didn’t hear anything by 12/24. Agree with you 100% on that.
Praying that does not happen for any of one of us still waiting, but nobody owes me an answer as to why me. Especially moderators who guide us through so much even when many of them don’t even have kids waiting for answers. They are just here to help us who are so new so this process.
PS- Congratulations on your two admits. I am happy for you! Praying we all get the news you have.

Trust me, it doesn’t get better. Once the complaining leave this board, it moves on to the school’s Facebook parent portal. :joy:

What is ā€œnon-directā€ nursing? I thought psu was direct admit

I think pre-nursing may be offered at some of the 6 commonwealth (branch) campuses that offer nursing. It isn’t offered at UP (main campus).

Someone said the direct admit was only through the Penn app, not common app(which she used) I guess pre- nursing would be it. She was able to put UP as preferred campus though

I’m not sure it’s possible to choose pre-nursing as a major, either on the PSU application or the PSU portion of the common app. I think it may be offered to some students who come close but don’t quite qualify for direct entry nursing at a commonwealth campus. It may just be called DUS with a pre-nursing emphasis.

I believe you are correct. I don’t remember a ā€œpre-nursingā€ option on common app. Just major as ā€œnursingā€, and we then had to choose #1 campus choice and #2 campus choice.

I second that. We did the same.

Yes, she has her major as nursing (not pre) with UP as her 1st choice applied on common app ( I think I’m getting confused by what others have said on here(not today)
I guess we will wait and see
