Penn State Early Action for Fall 2024 Admissions

No. Nursing is one of the most competitive majors at Penn State UP. No one can switch into nursing at UP. What major did you apply for and were accepted to?

Good luck to you!

what can one expect from PSU in the way of merit aid? DS accepted but every other state flagship that has accepted him has offered some form of merit scholarship. I know they don’t give much, but any idea what the process is?

Expect nothing unless he applied to and gets into Schreyer Honors College. Even Schreyer students receive only $5000 a year. The Provost’s Award (also $5000/year) is offered to a few students. Students are automatically considered for this award.

(I don’t know what happened when I tried to respond to this post- I didn’t mean to choose one word to respond to!)

This is what I keep consoling myself with! I will say that when we were up for a prospective student visit on 12/4 they said about the significant increase in apps. Also said they may not meet the 12/24 deadline for everyone. Shared that the people who hear first are the very highly qualified students and those who requested a commonwealth campus as first choice. Then made it sound like they started from the other side of going 2+2, to summer, to Fall.
*This could be my interpretation and/or wishful thinking as we are also waiting for Actuarial Science that falls within Smeal

No it’s actually the reverse. But with what I’ve seen there’s no rhyme or reason for how these acceptances have been rolling out.

No, absolutely you cannot. Nursing is one of the most competitive majors at Penn State - you either get in as a freshman or you don’t get in at all. If you were accepted summer after applying fall, you would not qualify for what they take for nursing admits.

But, summer is a great time in State College and the LEAP program is terrific. My daughter was accepted fall a few years ago and chose to go in the summer because her older brother and sister did summer and LOVED it.

i applied for psychology. if i can’t switch to nursing i will have to switch to a bio major.

Biology is one possibility but there are many other biology-related majors at PSU. Check the Penn State Undergraduate Bulletin for specific information about other possibilities.

Look at BioBehavioral Health. A good mix and prep for many medical careers (with grad school)

My son was offered admission to Smeal at Harrisburg 2+2 program on December 12th. We wanted to send an email asking for reconsideration for DUS or summer start. When we looked the portal couple of days later, the letter was gone and now it says that his application remains very much under consideration and will be reviewed again. He is now deferred and admission decision will be posted by January 31st. It’s very confusing . Not sure how they can give a decision and then take it away. We still have the letter in Lion Path. I called up admission and the lady said we should not looking at Lion Path. We should only consider what is in his portal.
Did anyone experience similar?

So you hadn’t yet sent the email about being reconsidered? That sounds very strange- and confusing!

My son was busy with finals and he sent a mail today asking for reconsideration.

Why would they say you should you not be looking in Lion Path after you had a decision and a Lion Path account was created?? In theory you could have gone in and accepted/enrolled under that initial decision?
I’m sorry you are dealing with that. The changing portal messages for us so far have been curious/confusing but that takes the cake!

The reason why Admissions and others, including current students, have said not to use LionPath is because of the additional and unnecessary stress the platform is taking with 100K applicants using it. The system was developed for administration and current students at all 24 campuses, not for checking admission decisions.

His admission decision was posted first in his portal but we didn’t save the letter. We were confused when letter was gone from his portal and now he is deferred. Hence we went to Lion Path to check for the letter. It’s still there.

I understand why to not keep going there to try to see a decision before your portal is updated. But once you see a decision in the portal then Lion Path is where you do your enrollment and say you want to attend?

What times do the admits normally come out?

I assume Summer is offered only at UP correct?

DS 24 is deferred OOS ; DUS ; TO…UP primary choice with the summer option… funding via transferred Post 9/11 GI Bill.
Is DUS only offered on the UP campus or is it available at other locations?
