On to bigger and better paths! She will be successful!
@MYOS1634 has given you great advice. I will reiterate what theyāve said in that English at Penn State is not a competitive major. So if the applicant was denied for English with summer start, Iām not sure if there is another major that would be less competitive than that. It never hurts to ask though because you never know if you donāt ask!
In case this is helpful to anyone, I called the PSU admissions office this morning to inquire about my OOS son who applied EA back in November but hasnāt received a decision yet. The rep was very nice and checked his record and told me they didnāt receive his transcript by the deadline for EA so his app was moved into RD. She said he would receive a decision by the end of January.
Bummer to hear that - but at least you know now and have a (new) deadline -
Well, Considering how they treated the EA applications, them saying end of January doesnāt mean anything at this point. Maybe weāll hear like end of April
@benkenobi There certainly were a small subset of people who did not hear by the EA deadline and we are now hearing that some that expected to hear did not have their application complete by the Nov. 1st due date. Certainly, Penn State shares some of the blame, but people are quick to point the finger also.
Thank you to this board! My daughter stopped checking since she didnāt get a decision by 12/24 and they told her in early Jan it would be another 2-3 weeks so she planned to look later this month. But when I saw the posts I peeked and she got accepted to UP for Art!! She is so excited!
Is there a chance she could ask to be reconsidered for Landscape Architecture? Not sure if she would be interested in that field? My OOS son met with the recruitment/retention coordinator from the architecture program back in September, and he indicated that they often offer Landscape Architecture to students who are denied acceptance to the BArch program.
After not receiving an EA decision by 12/24, he had prepared himself for an offer for LArch, but was pleasantly surprised.
No harm in askingā¦I wish her the best of luck!
Curious as to what other schools she applied to? We are waiting on a few others before he makes his decisionā¦.
Thanks! After being deferred by Cornell Architecture and MIT, my daughter was busy applying to a number of other top BArch and BS/BA Arch programs, and her counselor will write advocacy letters to Cornell/MIT and submit her middle-year report, so she was not upset when getting PSU BArch rejection. She has asked PSU to reconsider her application as PSU BArch is a very good program, but she moved on anyways.
Best of luck to her! Sounds like she will have great choices.
Congrats to your son. 2/3 of the wordcount in her rejection letter is about strongly recommending PSUās LArch program, but she is not interested in LArch. She applied to BArch at Rice/Syracuse/CMU/Tulane and BS/BA Arch at Princeton/WashU/Penn/Wellesley/NEU. Lots of work there. Hope she can get some ROI.
No need to rush on the enrollment. Good luck to your sonās other efforts.
I went to Syracuse, so go Orange! My son wasnāt interested in going thereā¦too cold (although State College is not much better.)
Sounds like she is an exemplary candidate and will do just fine wherever she lands.
May I ask what is ROI? Still learning the acronyms!
We visited Syracuse campus on the first day of their 23/24 academic year. Took student-led campus and architecture tours, and she already did portfolio interview. She likes the āOrange Spiritā, architecture school, and even the student tour guides.
ROI is āreturn on investmentā. Maybe it is just not a frequently used acronym in the college app industry
DS applied DUS and received a 2+2 decision on 12/12. He asked for reconsideration to HPA at UP, which would suit his strengths well, and received a form letter the same day indicating that his application was thoroughly reviewed. He met with a really terrific person from HHD, and they had a great conversation, but she wasnāt able to help him. What I found strange is that his application still lists DUS and Altoona even though he asked for a change in major.
I would call admissions and ask to speak to a counselor.
I have nothing bad to say about SUā¦even WITH the tons of snow it gets! It never bothered me. So proud to be an alum. Best of luck to her!
PSU AOās response to my daughterās reconsideration request: ā⦠We are unfortunately not able to review you for the same thing twice⦠We have reviewed your application for BARCH at University Park for Fall 2024 and due the thousands of applicants with only 60 spaces available, the competitiveness is very high.ā So, she is done with PSU entirely.
Congrats to all the admitted kids there.
Where one door closes a better one opens. Wishing her the great things I know will come. Admissions is so unpredictable and complicated.
Question to the differed folks out thereā¦do you have a PennState Account Management link in blue at the bottom of your MyPennState site, Profile (left) tab? At the bottom of MyPennState Profile details ⦠clicking it takes me to a a few tabs that gets me hopeful⦠not sure if has always been there or not⦠love to hear if youāve got it also⦠thanks!
