Penn State Early Action for Fall 2024 Admissions

NSO - in the past - is one overnight. The kids stay in the dorms and many of the parents just get a hotel room in town.

They will start as early as the week before Memorial Day in May. But that doesn’t mean you can schedule it then.

Typically, you receive an invite and a limited list of days. They are combining by colleges, so someone (advising, etc.) from Engineering (for example) doesn’t have to be there for every NSO. So, your list of days you can sign up for is different than someone else’s.

Also, they will do the LEAP kids first - they tend to get the earlier June days to sign up for before the typical Fall start kids.

NSO usually goes through June, July, and August. I wouldn’t expect to schedule anytime soon. (maybe something you ask (quietly) at accepted student day?)

I received that same email a few days ago; we checked the portal and the SSN was missing so we added it there. I assume they got my email from the parent information section in the Common App.

OOS (WA) parent here, we also received that email yesterday from PSU asking for SSN and FAFSA info to be entered via the MyPennState portal, so I don’t think it’s phishing…

We didn’t know about being admitted yet, and while I was checking on the interwebs if anyone else got the email (seeing yours), my son texted that he was admitted to UP for CS, no email, but was just checking the portal in between classes. The letter in the portal was dated 1/19. No mention of merit, but may change after providing SSN and FAFSA info?

He submitted his application before the EA deadline, but not the SSAR, and was bumped to RA. 1460 SAT (non-superscore), 3.82 UW GPA, 3 AP 5’s, 3 AP 4’s, also taking three AP’s his Senior year, Varsity Baseball/Golf, Deca, Youth Group, part-time job.

My money would’ve been on 2+2 based on missing EA, OOS and SAT below 1500…

Hopefully, others will start receiving good news as well. Best of luck to everyone!!!

Congratulations!

FYI, unfortunately PSU gives almost no merit. Schereyer’s (honors college) students do get $5K/year, but I’m unaware of other merit.

So glad to know we aren’t the only ones who got that email!

Does anyone know how long it takes to hear back after asking to be reconsidered? My son got 2 + 2 for business and asked to be reconsidered as undecided. It’s been about 4 weeks.

same here

Does anyone know if UP has a limit on number of students accepted into the Biobehavioral Health major each year?

OOS/ TO deferred DUS @ UP…

“by 31 JAN” is when our portal says we should expect a reply…

I looked for last year’s thread to hopefully answer this on my own… but
Are decisions held until 31 JAN typically or have students been notified via the portal in a rolling method? TIA
Good luck all

soooooo…. my son was deferred back in mid december and now his portal just updated to this:

“Your application has been updated. Please check back soon for a status update.”

and to add to the mix… his TO button has been gone since the deferral but now it’s back?! any insight?! i keep refreshing!

Good luck sounds like a decision is coming!

Sorry to say - Penn State gives no/virtually no merit money. My older PSU student had 105 GPA, and we did not get not a single dollar of merit

My older student was admitted for Pre-med. They accept only 300 students (at least that was true 2 years ago). She has changed to BBH - I do not believe there is a limit here.

We got the below today - Applied 11/30 OOS Smeal Finance major. Feels this is just buying more time given back-up (very generic, no name etc. The other schools we applied to at least said Hi xxx or congratulations xxx). No worries here as we have other options. Just posting as FYI.

We have completed a comprehensive review of your application and invite you to join the Penn State University Park waitlist.

By accepting your waitlist invitation, you will remain under consideration for admission to the University Park campus. Should space become available, we will notify you as soon as possible. All waitlist decisions will be posted in the MyPennState portal no later than May 15, 2024. If space does not become available at the University Park campus by this date, your application will be automatically evaluated for admission to your alternate-choice starting campus.

If you choose to decline your waitlist invitation, we will immediately evaluate your application for admission to your alternate-choice starting campus.

Please accept or decline this waitlist invitation within two weeks using the buttons below.

For those who were deferred but now accepted: was there an email or just a portal update?

Our deferred son in same position. His status has now changed back to original “under review status” and TO has re appeared. It’s like he’s back to step 1 before Nov 1.
