Penn State Early Action for Fall 2024 Admissions

I called admissions this morning… 814-865-5471; asked to input PSU ID# 9xxxxx; then spoke to a rep… asked about the #psubound posting… only thing I was told was that “the record was under review”… no hints or leaks given… they’ve been briefed on this and stated the results will post in the portal… wish I could be of more assistance… maybe you’ll have better luck… til then , good luck!

Now my husband and I are placing bets to see how long it will take our son to actually check his portal to get his letter!:rofl:

I called because my kid’s essay coach said we should. They said by the 24th. I know at one point someone was told January.

That’s great news! I’ll have my S24 check when he’s home from school. Maybe they released all the B.Arch at once.

And then waiting continues for his other schools!

Can a parent also have access to the portal? Is there a separate account for that?

is that instate or oos?

That’s fine - but then you will likely be happier with a smaller school that does more hand holding. Penn State is a huge school and you will not get individualized attention there unless you seek it out with office hours, clubs, etc…

There is no logistical way Penn State could review 100,000 + applicants with a “full holistic evaluation” unless you want your decision in May.

not broken down between in-state vs OOS. (and remember, I haven’t verified that number - all anecdotal - so don’t take it as gospel - just showing how competitive Smeal is).

I spoke with an admissions officer at the end of October and she told me they received 170,000 In applications, I thought in that moment maybe she misspoke or I misheard. Looking back I now realize it very well might have been 170,000

I control ALL access to all Portals of Colleges (6 in Total) applied. There is no need for the student to get into the portal until actual college attendance is “set in stone”, and then we submit the email and phone contact change to reflect my son’s. This system worked great for us 2 years ago with S22 and same presently with S24.

Still waiting BArch OOS this am. “Under review” does not sound promising :frowning:

It might not all come out at once. Don’t lose hope! What is your student’s stats?

I was recently told 100k apps…there is no real number. How many are incomplete, etc.

Heads Up to the College of Engineering Accepted Students.
Tonight is the College of Engineering Virtual Accepted Student Program 700pm Eastern.
You should have received an email to signup and the link.
As Dad I’m watching because S24 is working tonight.

The problem is my DD does not allow me to look at her PSU portal.

Good to know. Thank you!

The same for my S. He wants to take care of the portal information himself. I just ask him every few days if he has checked his emails for any updates.

I am fine with this process. UP was a reach for my son, so he applied and went about his life. I had to remind him to check. I guess one thing I’d suggest is that if they are not going to review essays or ECs, they should just scrub them from the application. Especially the essay. Even if optional, lots of kids will agonize over it and craft it to the specific school.

Just ditch it.

My kid just cut and pasted one from a different school. But others, not so much.

That’s what my 24s older brother did last year. Now he’s at Altoona, probably because he didn’t do his SRAR in time. This year I sat with the 24, and made sure each thing was filled out correctly. My 24 is much more willing to accept help… my 23 is learning the hard way.

Same here. Applied to every school “Directly” except one, “The Reach School” was Common App Only. Nobody needs to know are business with colleges.
Cut and pasted Essays. SSAR Submittal is great love that System it really digs alot more than Common App.
When applying directly with schools that have a “Specific Rec Letter” requirement the Common App isn’t that forgiving with that option. The individual school application portal is better for that.
Every school portal we applied NOT the Common App had specific questions regarding Military Veteran Status of parents as well. Combat Served, Disabled etc. Some portals asked Legacy (who, what years) and Parental Ethnicity “getting around” applicant ethnicity. Love that too with S24 being Hispanic (mom)
