Penn State Early Action for Fall 2024 Admissions

My daughter just go her B.Arch. acceptance this morning! She says PSU is her “back up plan” (a little off putting since it’s my alma mater) but we’ll see how the rest of her applications play out. Definitely a positive way to start off the process!

Maybe today’s the day? My daughter just got her BArch acceptance this morning and texted me from school to let me know. Good luck!!

The California State Universities are very focused on a holistic approach. They don’t accept the common app but all use a California specific app which requires the students to select from 8 essay prompts. They receive more applications than Penn State does, but in defense of Penn State, they do not have any early decision options.

Yeah. CA Schools although some are great for engineering (Stanford, UC Berkley) just left a bad taste on the “LEFT” side of our mouths, if you know what I mean.

Similar boat here - PSU is down the list of schools for my son, but still multiple schools he’s waiting to hear from.

Great for her to have at least one - the whole B.Arch. process seems super challenging no matter what school.

Congrats! I will have to ask him to check when he’s back from school.

What other programs did your D apply for BArch programs?

Same ! This waiting game is killing me, especially since B.Arch decisions have started trickling out.

Anyone OOS hear about UP from Smeal?

My DD is patiently waiting to hear from Smeal OOS

No. I really haven’t seen any Smeal Direct Admits to UP on this thread. A few 2 + 2 have been released. Wonder what they are waiting for; maybe going to release all at once?

So strange!

Very. All the kids (quite a few applied) in our high school have heard from PSU, but none of them applied to Smeal.

I’m guessing they look more carefully at the applications for smeal, classes, rigor, school report etc. these require people/man power hence why they take so long to go through all the applications.

Same here

A good number of kids from our NJ HS applied to smeal. They are mostly reporting 2/2…2 direct to Smeal (my kids mentioned about 9 total) These have been reported over the last 2 days. My son still awaiting DUS.

Still waiting applied Smeal in state from a competitive public school.

I don’t think any one CalState school gets as many applications as UP though.
Long Beach and San Diego get the most at ~70k which is closest.
And great point on the timing. CalState acceptances are not until Feb-March

UC schools are maybe a better comparison. 5 of the 9 got over 100k applications each last year and they also use holistic approach including essays. But they won’t look at SAT, so a different kind of trade-off. (and no decisions until late March).

Reading across various boards, it is interesting to see people here complaining about the drips and drabs ahead of 12/24 while on some other boards people complain about having to wait until after January. (or even schools that have EA results this month, people complain in the week leading up that “they must know already, they should release now instead of waiting until Friday” etc. )

I guess the grass is always greener when we feel anxious and that so much is on the line.

Santa Clara, a medium size school, told my daughter they had over 100,000. So I can see how Penn State would have more than that.

170k seems high but 125k plus not out of question. A friend on an admissions tour end of Oct was told they already had 100k
