this thread gets me through the wait, thanks everyone.
Also deferred here.

is film competitive? that shocks me wow
My daughter has been accepted into the Main Campus Computer Science program. As she will be coming from out of state, could you please advise on the timeframe within which we should take the necessary steps to confirm her acceptance?
Completely agree - deferral would be preferred over 2+2 in my house! If my applicant is offered 2+2, we will likely accept an offer from another institution.
All this info will be in her portal as she willnow have all kinds of access. But i think May 1st is universal for acceptance. Some schools it matters when you submit a request for a dorm room. Also, they have posted the accepted students visit dates. Iād look into those. We are
To me that is very good GPA with that rigor. I know IB is very demanding. Iād be optimistic but maybe there are a lot of kids that apply to Film Prod???
I set up the portals myself. My son wants nothing to do with him. Heās trying to focus on school, sports and enjoying his senior year
totally. My guess is these schools are short staffed or letting their staff work from home. They arenāt getting as much done.
Film production is capacity limited, what California calls Impacted. Media Studies isnāt nor is Tech. When you look at the program description,they list entry to major requirements and any minimum grade (generally C or C+) - thatās where you see if the major has more demand than spots.
Since all students are admitted as premajors and AFAIK film production is not among the few direct entry like turf science or nursing (I havenāt checked specifically though) students could just apply for media studies, take ETM reqs, and show their ability for film production.
@Parent42
That being said, IB shows rigor, with external verification (IB exams) so just sit tight, there shouldnāt be a problem in your case.
Caring to share stats?
Disappointed with the way Penn State rolled out the decision to our son. He applied in August for Main Campus/ UP. No answer after 4 months and then yesterday at noon my wife and I both received emails from a Penn State satellite campus giving us key dates, Given that weād never corresponded with this campus, we guessed UP admissions gave our info to the campus and that our son did not get into UP. But still nothing in our sons portal. 7 hours later they finally gave him the news he got 2+2. He didnāt care that much as he had already moved on focusing on the 4 acceptances heās received in recent weeks at some great schools. But we thought this was really poorly done. Tell the kid first. Be thoughtful with the process. Show some respect for kids who make the effort and commitment to try get in. And to the parents in this chat: watch your email! All the best.
Outright denied? As in āthanks for applying, but will arenāt accepting youā (even to a branch campus)?
that is awful. order totally messed up. might be worth an email to Matt Melvin (new director of admissions) with feedback. Need to get timing or communication right.
We have been getting emails too from a community campus we listed as secondary I wonder if that means they already deemed us as 2+2 even though we havenāt received a decision. Third emails from Scranton have been coming to us fir the past several weeks.
I feel like I have been hanging in this forum forever and waiting for that damm TO button to disappear(lol), but knowing we are not alone and hearing everyoneās stories and advice is comforting so thank you!. D trying to stay optimistic. Good luck to everyone in the next few days:)
@NittLion95 yes! Surprising.
what is 2+2?
2+2 is offering a satellite campus for the first two years with the option to transfer to UP to finish. Its been a frustrating observation of mine that many in state kids have been offered this option this year and Im seeing a lot of OOS kids get offered UP start. Very frustrating for an in state family. Maybe Im bitter, it seems that Penn State seems to be favoring OOS kids this cycle
I would dispute that a little bit. I have seen many OOS students offered 2+2, and if you see it from an OOS perspective, why would a family make a significant investment in a commonwealth campus that they know little about versus UP?
We are an OOS family and my son five years ago was placed at Scranton 2+2 engineering. Is that worth $30k+? We didnāt and moved on. Now my third and last son was recently offered Smeal 2+2 at Altoona. As I am a Smeal grad with multiple connections to the business school (currently doing a second Smeal masters, part-time teaching assistant at Smeal, and a Smeal alumni mentor for students), he too will move on if admissions cannot reconsider him at UP. Families need to know when to walk away when the economics do not compute. In the end, everything works out for the best.
