I would definitely think it would be on the low end of that if not sooner. I talked to a Penn State Admissions officer in the past couple of weeks and he said decisions are happening quicker because they don’t have as much of a backlog with the majority of admissions decisions made.
@ritad0000
However most decisions on new applications (not necessarily reconsideration of an EA app) would be for branch campuses. You have to prepare yourself and if you listed a random one, you have about a month to learn about them - there’s even a thread pinned on top of this forum.
Thanks, DD selected Altoona as an alternate as it was closest to UP.
My son really liked Penn State but checked the Summer start box (in addition to Fall) and he got summer start (Smeal). We are going up for Admitted Student Day next week (did also tour junior year). He originally had Penn State as his first choice but he’s gotten into into other schools without the summer start and I I think Penn State would be back to #1 if he could start in Fall (tried to sell the summer start to him but he wasn’t buying!)
If he enjoys next week’s visit, do we ask for reconsideration as DUS or is it too late and I accept he’s going to the Midwest?
It’s too late for that reconsideration - Smeal right away, even with Summer start, is quite good.
There’s the issue of cost plus the matter of summer jobs.
I guess it also depends when he finishes school. If he finishes in June I suppose it wouldn’t be enough time off.
For kids who finish in May, often, by July they are raring to go and start their new life, can’t wait for college to start, and the way LEAP is structured it’s the perfect transition for them.
But if he’s going to a Midwestern university for Business, it’s all good too
Did anyone from OOS hear about scholarships? Was accepted in Nov… no mention yet. Assuming its a no??
Nothing yet here either
Great news!! He appealed by declaring “Agribrusiness” (and still saying he would do summer session). Just got word that he’s accepted to UP (with summer session)! Hasn’t made a decision but so happy that this is now an option
Would you mind sharing stats?
My son got scholarship not long after he received acceptance email last December, but he’s 2+2.
Yes, assume it’s a no.
You could keep the decision open till closer to May 1 but I wouldn’t be optimistic.
OOS, 3.9 weighted GPA. 4 AP’s, 11 honors and 1 DE.
Originally applied college of BBH for kinesiology. Did not check summer start, offered branch campus.
Reconsidered for college of liberal arts for sociology. Checked summer this time.
Accepted into Sociology, UP, Fall start.
In Thursday’s Ghosts (CBS), funny joke that involves the Penn/State confusion and name checks the Altoona branch campus. (Okay, as a diss, but let’s be fair, Altoona may be a real 4-year college, it’s not an Ivy League University either AND it got a mention on a TV show watched by millions which surely is a win publicity-wise).
It goes something like this:
Jay, to unhappy customer “My sister writes back to all negative reviews and she took Creative Writing at Penn!”
Ghost: …State
Ghost : … Altoona campus
Ghost:… and didn’t graduate.
Thank you for the details and congratulations , very glad it worked.
If you still want to pivot to Kinesiology, you’d need to take Eng 15 and Soc 1/3/5, but also Bio 161 or Chem 101 (NOT 110!), KINES 100, and depending on your AP credits Stats 200 or World Language.
Do you know how Leap would work in terms of does my D25 get assigned an advisor based on his major and they would help him pick the two summer classes? Thanks.
The student has to choose their favorite Leap(s) on March 24 when it opens. The list is already online so they can choose.
If you indicate what majors your child is considering I can give suggestions.
I would love suggestions for Agribusiness Management for LEAP. Thank you!
Do they have to commit before they can choose?
I believe you would have to be enrolled in order to register for classes.
Yes, you have to commit and enroll before you can register for classes.
However the page listing the LEAP prides (because lion pride …) is up.
