All students are premajor, with different requirements depending on their chosen major. It’s selective (you can’t major in Communication if you can’t get a C in Freshman English, you can’t major in Engineering if you can’t get a C in Calculus, etc) but if you have the grades you’re in, there’s no limited number of admits nor a selection among them through a further application or an interview.
= You meet the basic requirements, you’re in.
As a Smeal premajor, you can apply to Sapphire (Business Honors, with special opportunities) and have a Smeal adviser.
Your HS grades/AP scores don’t factor into the GPA required but you can avoid weed out courses by taking credits for Calc AB (I recommend you take Math 112 aka Business Calculus 2, especially if you want Finance) and AP Micro Econ.
Hey everyone! I’m wondering if I should change my TO button and go test optional. I feel my gpa is way higher than my sat score was so I’m debating if it’s worth changing to test optional because I’m nervous I won’t get in. I’m applying for smeal and know it’s super competitive! Any advice would help!
Hi. My son was accepted today to Smeal and is super excited. Seems today was a big day for notifications. It was a long wait having submitted his application on August 15 as the only school he applied to. We were getting nervous and he then submitted to Pitt Business on 11/14 and was accepted on 12/2 after just 17 days. Submitted to VT too. After finding this helpful forum about 3 weeks ago, we changed his SAT submission to TO about 2 weeks ago feeling his best sitting (1270…PSU doesn’t super score which was 1330) could only hurt his otherwise solid application. I’ll never know what would have happened but I guess it doesn’t matter! Large suburban Philly HS, 3.92/4.52, 8 AP’s, honors, 2 varsity sports for 4 years, clubs, Deca, an award for service hours and IMO, a heart warming essay. We Are proud new PSU parents! Daughter a soph at Pitt and a big fan of Pitt too. Hope this is helpful. Good luck.
We spoke to the admission office today, who mentioned that they pick applications for review completely randomly (without any regard for the GPA, test scores, state or major) and still have about 60,000 EA applications to go through at this point. So, if you have not gotten your admission decision, it means that your application is still awaiting the review, and nothing beyond that. So, please stay positive! And best of luck to all of us
I got a 1320 not super scored so a 670 on English and a 650 on math. Based on past comments I think it is best to go TO. My gpa is a 98.62. I’m not sure how to convert it over to a 4.0 scale my school doesn’t do that for me. I’ve done 5 Ap and the rest of my classes have been all honors courses.
Has anyone from MA heard back yet. Haven’t seen OSS from MA been mentioned. Was wondering if the decision releases are done by regional admission reps.
I didn’t realize Penn State didn’t super score. I think my daughter only submitted her super score test results for her ACT. Does anyone have any insight as to how that would work? She did not apply test optional obviously. Could a reason why we haven’t heard be because they’re still waiting on test scores from one test?
Hi, is there also notification if not admitted that comes out in December, or does the status just show under review until some future date? Application is currently under review.
