Penn State frat suspended over Facebook page with nude pics

Interesting article about Monica Lewinsky in the NY Times last week:http://www.nytimes.com/2015/03/22/style/monica-lewinsky-is-back-but-this-time-its-on-her-terms.html

And, so, do people think facebook is somehow secure and their data isn’t fully available to facebook company employees, and that such data that they delete from their accounts and their hard drives don’t persist on facebook back up server farms for months? And other such run-on sententiousness?

And yet another Penn State frat has been shut down though this is for more “expected” drinking violations:

I saw it about PSU every time – good school, good academic offerings but a culture problem. It’s not different than culture problems that arise at every school, but PSU seems quick to take enough steps to get out of the national spotlight and then let things go back to “normal” until the next problem crops up. In the meantime they “distract” re culture bc the answer to any culture question is always – THON. It’s fantastic that they raise money for cancer, but that doesn’t absolve them from doing everything else that must happen at a university.

What exactly has Penn State done to allow " things" to go back to " normal"?

What are you talking about?

How is THON the answer to any “culture” question? What does that even mean?

I am happy to read they shut down this latest frat.

Penn State does not allow any alcohol in the undergrad dorms. They have rules regarding on campus and off campus alcohol consumption. they have strict furnishing laws that can allow for the arrest of anyone 21 and older in serving anyone under 21.

http://studentaffairs.psu.edu/conduct/policies/alcohol.shtml

They are working hard to enforce the rules of the law.

Penn State and the national Pi Kappa Phi are shocked, shocked that underage drinking was going on at the fraternity… What a bunch of hypocrites.

You really have never heard Penn State scream “THON” in response to anything and everything on their campus? Really? Any time they – administration or students – face any criticism on anything from Sandusky to frats posting nude photos of women to the “shocking” underage drinking – they uniformly come out and say “this isn’t what our university stands for, our culture is great. Our students raise SO much money for THON.” Google some PSU press conferences – I have heard people say it from the president of the university to the football coach to students. Heck the hockey coach was on some radio interview recently and he was put on the spot re what the athletic department has done to change things post-Sandusky. Not only could he not come up with ONE example pertaining to any sport – including his own – he repeated the line about THON at least 10 times in a 20 min interview.

Sorry the place has a leadership problem.

And they’re shocked re underage drinking?! Has the administration not seen what football tailgates look like? Why turn the blind eye – why not alert State College police and have them issue tickets for public intoxication and/or deal with underage issues on a football Saturday?? I’m guessing bc that would put a damper on festivities.

Even back in 2006 I have witnessed undercover cops at Penn State functions giving out underage citations. Not only do the students have to go to court but they lose their license for three months even if they were no where near a car. Try getting car insurance then.

I have seen a 21 year old kid get a furnishing citation for letting his friend hold an unopened case of beer when he opened the trunk of his car off campus.

There are 40,000 undergrads. A small portion are idiots. Some members of fraternities are idiots.

I am glad to read anytime a frat gets in trouble for doing illegal things. I am glad it is made public even though its lousy press.

At this point in time, greek organizations are money makers for colleges, plain and simple. They get kids in the door and give them a reason to stay there for four years.

Just a quick update:

“Withdrawal of recognition” to last three years.

Coverage from the Philadelphia Inquirer:

@bay, what are you saying about frats and rapes?

An update: The fraternity member who had reported numerous infractions to Penn State, was physically harassed and terrorized, and provided the police with the screen shots of the infamous criminal behavior is suing the fraternity and Penn State:

ugh…if this was truly the universities response it is so very disappointing. This should also become national news and hopefully other Universities will take note.

Well, it’s news in Philly:

I’m just going to put this here:

add “http://” to the above link to make it work

Hmmm, wasn’t it in some other thread that someone who worked with his fraternity’s national organization specifically named Penn State as a school where hazing and alcohol were much bigger problems than elsewhere?

this is what I was trying to link to, hopefully it doesn’t get blocked again
