Penn State Sandusky scandal

Players look great, fans good and loud, cheerleaders cheering and the drummers driving the beat of a great college football weekend.

Hope you get power back soon grcxx.

This is a pretty good game. Ohio is inside of the one-yard line and are pushing to take the lead…

It would be the same Penn State that had 5000 of its students violently riot when Paterno was fired, who continue to whine about the sanctions and and vacated wins, and who are now proudly posing for pictures with cut-out images of the revered St. Joseph. Yeah, that Penn State.

sax and hops_scout - if they show the band, cheer them on for me!!! I know I have a few friends cheering from the crowd, but it’s always good to have more.

“It would be the same Penn State that had 5000 of its students violently riot when Paterno was fired”

Media stated 1000/44,000, students on campus said that a few hundred of the 44,000 but even if we believed your Hitler fueled number - still a small minority.

“who continue to whine about the sanctions and and vacated wins”
Everyone is entitiled to their opinion in the good old USA

“now proudly posing for pictures with cut-out images of the revered St. Joseph”
I’m watching the game. Over 100,000 in attendance. How many are posing???

It would be the same Penn State that held a 10000 student peaceful candlelit vigil for the victims, that accepted the ncaa sanctions and 100000 fans standing strong and not having their pictures taken with cut outs of Paterno.

crosspost with above

grccx … is he on the quads?

And how many attended the candle light vigil? And how many bought Blue-out tshirts? And how many alumni gave money to RAIIN?

Oh right - those things aren’t newsworthy and the motives of the students and alumni are suspect- so
those numbers don’t count.

I knew it would happen sooner or later. When all other rhetorical strategies fail, go with the Nazi comparisons, complete with “it’s NOT that I am comparing ---- to Nazis, but…”

Yeah, you are. You really, really are. Not cool at all, for so many reasons!

sax - sorry for the crosspost. Dang AT&T! Hard enough with no power (or anything else), but the cell phone service is so spotty - everything just gets hung up. Sometimes even text msgs don’t go thru.

Oh - and my son is one of the lead trumpet players.

So you think we should have quotas, keep too many people from attending the game? Or perhaps we should institute rules that say we are no longer allowed to cheer?

How about it? If you think Paterno’s involvement is cut and dried, good for you - a lot of us do not. Of course, a lot of us wonder why the rest of the world seems okay with Erickson (whose name appears in the Freeh emails more than Paterno’s does) and the BoT staying in their roles when we want them all out!

Sorry, we were out of tar and feathers. Plus, she had a ticket.

As soon as people tell us which parts of the football culture were directly responsible for what happened, we will excise it.

What are we, a hive mind? Individuals make individual decisions. If you have a problem with how some individuals are acting, address those individuals. I know it takes more time and effort than condemning a large group, but if you are going to sling anger and hate you should at least try to aim it correctly.

Well, we thought about booing young men who had done nothing wrong but show up to play football at one of the few schools that would actually expect them to get a degree, but we couldn’t decide how to shame people from the stands and make sure it carried all the way to the field.

So we should stop everything then? Our football players eat food, we should stop that too, right? Our fans sit on benches, we should remove those? I know, we allow our football players to get college degrees, we should stop that, shouldn’t we?

If this sounds absurd, it should. The reason for specificity is that without it we just do more damage. I understand (or at least perceive) that you, among many, have no problem scattering damage to Penn State players, students, and fan without regard to its effectiveness in stopping child abuse (your alleged aim) but since it is our backs bearing the punishment we prefer to be specific.

Oh, and yes, we DO get to play that card. It has become abundently clear that we will be condemned by some no matter what we do, so why should we care what those people think, why try to make THEM happy when it clearly is not going to happen?

Don’t hold your breath, I’ve been waiting for this one for about 8411 posts.

It’s not that difficult to understand. Just maybe an opinion different than yours. Doesn’t make me a hater. I’ve been on this thread a long time, I’ve always tried to consider all opinions without labelling fellow posters. Calm down.

What a farcical and despicable spectacle!

Not sure what is more despicable … The fact that NCAA allowed PSU to play this game and show who they STILL are, or that the media gratifies the university and its members any coverage.

I was wrong in stating that by Thanksgiving all would be forgotten. They already forgot or never cared!

I’m glad they played. Didn’t matter to me if they won or lost, but can you image the comments here if they had won? ;)

Some here will NEVER get it. Winning or losing should have no relevance. We know what the pursuit of winning at all cost brought us.

There was nothing to celebrate today.

I will celebrate when justice prevails and Spanier, Curley and Schultz are prosecuted.

I don’t understand why Paterno was fired, but Curley and Schultz are on leave, and Spanier hasn’t been charged with anything. And the BoT has faced no significant impact.

Not trying to start a problem, it’s just odd to me. Why weren’t they ALL fired or ALL on leave?

Media and the police stated 4000 to 5000, or approximately 10% of the student body:

Any school that has 10% of its students go out and riot because their football coach got fired has big problems. Sorry to say it appears they haven’t learned anything since.

I agree. But that doesn’t stop me from supporting the Penn State community and students now.
