Pennsylvania State University

Does anyone from Nepal attend Penn State ? I was accepted there and I am debating on where I should go University of Pittsburgh or Penn State…Can you guys drop some knowledge on me about which one has more reputation and which would be better for engineering ? cost is not a problem…since both cost kinda the same

I would suggest Penn State. My best friend’s dad is the Assistant Vice President
for Student Affairs, and I have visited the college town almost every single break. it’s a HUGE campus and is very reputed in the US. Although last year’s Paterno/Sandusky scandal kinda defamed the school a little bit, the school is so huge, old and reputed that it’s more like a family, and literally everyone knows the college. the college of engineering is also very reputed (i have several friends(my best friend’s friends) who go there, and they say the Engineering college is really awesome, esp if you get into the Honors program). the college town is pretty nice and big too.

on the other hand, I dont know anything about UofPittsburgh. I dont know how reputed and strong their academic program is but it’s definitely not close to Penn State in reputation.
I would, without any doubt, suggest Penn State if I had to. and if you do go there, hey, we could totally meet up; meeting another Nepal in this foreign land is quite fun . I always visit the college town during breaks, it’s just 3 hrs from where I am.

so yes, PennState.

Thanks for the reply…well i did not apply for the honors college so I might apply in after my freshman year there. best friends dad ? is he from nepal too ? So, what grade are you in ? Will you be attending the college too ? The college is really big whereas U of Pitt is small and classes are small…thats the only thing I am worried about…

I am from Nepal and I have applied there (RD) and if i get in i might go there. XD

O nice when did you apply(before or after november 30) ? and what major ? I am still not sure if I will go there(still waiting for some other colleges)…do you live in us or nepal ? anyway hope to see u there…

Well, i go to Lehigh, sophomore, and no, my best friend is not from Nepal, neither is he a Nepali. His hometown is Bellefonte, a small town in the outskirts of collegetown, Pa (which is where Penn State is). Yes, Penn State’s class size is fairly big but that being said, if you reach out, you would get hold of professors anywhere. But yeah, dont completely base your decision on what i said. Checkout PennState forum and UofPitts forum and create a thread there. That might help you. Like i said i dont know anything abt UofPitts, so i cant really say anything. Goodluck.
