What is your perception of IITs, NITs & BITS Pilani?
What names would you give them, If these institutes were car brands, cell phone brands, political parties?
Similarly, what is one thing that is unique to each of these institutes that others don’t have?
I put BITS much above IITs and NITs. IITs are rolling on their branding only. If 2% of top Indian students go there obviously you will find them going somewhere to be best. It is not the greatness of IITs, it is the greatness of the students. They just provide the opportunity and ambience with the kind of money govt pumps in. But there is no research component where neither the teachers nor the involvement of the students to the level expected from a supposedly world-class institutes. NITs have the local quota which spoils them and there are local politics involved in faculty recruitment and the way these institutes are run. There are much better private and local engineering colleges which can beat a Kurukshetra or a Rourkela in terms of academics or job placements. BITS looks managed well being not many in number and no interference from govt. Sorry, they can’t be compared with car bands or cellphone brands.
