Personal Statement Grading + AI concerns

Hello! I’m a junior (class of ‘27) and I was wondering what’s a good place to get my personal statement reviewed. I looked online but most of the products advertised are super expensive and I don’t have that money :sob:. What I’m also worried about is that my personal statement came back as AI generated from 2/3 AI detectors I put it in even though I wrote it completely by myself. Apparently my writing is “too controlled” according to GPTZero and Pangram?? Is this something to be worried about? Thank you so much!

Do not post the essay online here (or anywhere for that matter). Go to the CC essay forum and there should be instructions to request a volunteer to read your essay.

FWIW both of my kids asked their favorite English teacher to review their essay.

It’s a great idea to have your English teacher review your essay – they know you and your writing style. My recommendation (without having read it, of course), is to include as many specific details as you can – it’s the personal statement, so specifics make sense, anyway. The element of AI writing that tends to raise suspicion is generic, bland writing. I’m not saying your essay fits that description, but the more vivid you can make it without overwriting, the better.
