The funniest part… there is apparently another fraudster named Martin Shkreli, 59 years old, to be tried by the same judge. Talk about bad timing to get into trouble with the law!

Also- good. I hope he gets the maximum amount of time possible. Normally, I’m not in favor of jailing non-violent criminals but I consider him to be indirectly violent (though not by the crime he was convicted of). Given how our system works though, no jail time wouldn’t surprise me and I’d be shocked if it was anything more than a year.
Pharma Bro is a disgusting piece of slime. The damage he did to the legitimate biotech drug research is huge. Companies have seen their stock values plummet just when they needed to raise funds. Lock him up in a dungeon and give the key to the TSA.
I think guilty was the right call. But personal feelings aside about how disgusting he is, it makes no sense to treat his financial crime as rising to the level of Madoff, who destroyed thousands of people financially. Somewhere in the range of 2 to 5 years makes sense.
Two of the 3 counts have a max of 20 years each and the last one has a max of 5 years.
Then again, there is the unfortunate possibility he may end up serving no jail time which IMO would effectively minimize the seriousness of the crimes he was convicted of and send a disturbing message that the courts don’t take them seriously.
Then again, considering his apparent attitude even in court…wouldn’t be surprised if the jurors/judge do send him off to prison…or if additional penalties are enacted on the basis of “contempt of court” because his antics ticked off the judge.
And he’s not doing himself any favors by openly bragging about how he’s not afraid of prison or being flip during the court proceedings as he has been
And it seems he’s citing the fact he witnessed the 9/11 attack on the WTC and grew up on the “mean streets of Brooklyn” for his lack of fear of going to prison.

Is this guy mentally ill? Or just a horrible person?
Some folks are both. Just saying. When a person shows who and what he is, believe him.
I’m going with horrible person. I think he’s just an arrogant SOB who has an enormous amount of white, male, wealthy privilege who has never had to pay for his actions.
Only a licensed Psych can make a determination on the first.
However, he does remind me of several folks in the news who felt none of the rules/laws applied to them and were brazen about it such as Leona Helmsley(“Only the little people pay taxes” according to one of her former housekeepers).
Hurrah! I think that i will celebrate by pulling out a bottle of very good wine, the type that Martin Shkreli used to be able to afford. 
Wonder how MS is handling being in jail. He seems like the type who would try to be cavalier about it all the while shaking in his boots.
@Nrdsb4 depends where he is in jail. Martha Stewart, for example, was at a prison that folks around her call the country club.
@thumper1, Martin Shkreli is locked up with the general population at the Metropolitan Detention Center in New York City. I don’t know anything about that facility other than that he has no access to the internet and that facility houses all types of prisoners, not simply white collar criminals.

Good…doesn’t sound swanky…at all. But even places like this do sometimes segregate the white collar criminals from the others.

Martha Stewart may have been in a cuntry club prison but it still was horrible for her. We need to lock white color crimes more often. Guys who caused 2008, Wells Fargo, Equifax, etc.
