My S heading to same school today or tomorrow, so I feel for you. He was caught in the Phila storm , had to fly Newark to Charlotte to get to SF for next interview. Next weekend he’s headed for Boston, and with karma, snow will end up moving north.</p>
<p>Perhaps your dtr will end up Texas or VA. I suspect weather will play a part on S’s decision (IF he has choices).</p>

<p>curmudgeon - sorry, but I can’t be optimistic about this storm. Philly is now supposed to get 12" of snow. That coupled with expected high winds will create a traveling nightmare for the next few days. Just yesterday, I thought Philly would get mostly rain and the snow line would be further inland.

<p>hurtnever, she is a senior at Rhodes. That decision process can be a bear but it is all about having choices. The snowy, rainy, slushy, windy, wet cold awaiting her in CT for 3 days should be a factor in her’s, if she’s paying attention. ;)</p>
<p>curmudgeon, Rhodes president made the call yesterday regarding my D’s acceptance. I think she is offered one of the top scholarship. Being only child I want my D to take it and u know how the kids are … need to wait and see… sorry for distracting the thread!!! I heard the classes get filled soon and hard to register… please give us your insight regarding this.Thanx!</p>
<p>Light snow and black pavement as of now and we are a bit south west of the Phila airport.</p>
<p>Visibility is pretty bad. I can only see a few blocks from my office. On a good day I can see 4-5 miles.</p>
<p>Oh man, does this discussion take me back to a year ago. My daughter just beat a storm out of Cleveland and my husband ended up driving her to NH during a storm because she has no experience driving in the snow. Fun times. If memory serves there were weather issues out of Pittsburgh as well. I am grateful that she ended up at a school where she can train it home.</p>
<p>Curm, crossed fingers that your D’s connections work out. I am not at home (Philly burbs) or I would go grab her if she gets stuck. She sounds like a really interesting kid. It would be fun to spend an evening with her.</p>
<p>We are trying to get to Allentown today for my daughter’s senior recital which is tomorrow. I am pretty sure we will make it as far as Atlanta, and then who knows. I will be so sad if we miss it. :(</p>
<p>This storm is supposed to put us over 80" of snow for the season, which still has a few weeks to go. The previous record was 65", and we haven’t gotten as many as 12" in five or six years. Luckily, it’s been warm so far this week, and a lot of the existing snow melted, but there are still mountains of it in various places around Center City (and the streets in my neighborhood).</p>
<p>Allentown is supposed to get two feet or more. I doubt you are going to get to Allentown, but I also doubt that anyone will be holding a recital there tomorrow.</p>
<p>I am so sorry that she is getting zapped by the weather again. I had hoped that she had gone already. Wish you the best of luck. </p>
<p>How about some personal anecdotes to pass the time?</p>
<p>Do you remember the old Abbott and Costello routine “Niagara Falls”? You know, “…Niagara Falls…slowly I turned, step by step, inch by inch…” Every time the guy heard about Niagara Falls it revived his post traumatic stress regarding that famous place. It’s on You tube if you want to find it. Anyway, for my H, Philadelphia is exactly the same. He spent a good 10 years there one Sunday afternoon (to paraphrase WC Fields).
I have my own Philadelphia story. Somewhat akin to your trip in the x terra (which I found hilarious btw). My friend was driving me from DC to Philadelphia over spring break senior year. I had managed to get to DC for a few days from centrally isolated Ithaca NY. We were supposed to stop in at the Wharton School of Business since it was on my list of places that I had applied to. I got directions from a woman at the school. Something went really wrong on the directions, and we ended up driving on a street in downtown Philly only meant for cabs and buses. (Darned if I know where that is today, even though I have been to Philly many many times over the last 20 years.) We were honked at and cussed at plenty. So we just doubled back to the interstate and continued on up to NY, where my parents lived (and I was going to finish up spring break before heading back to Siberia). I did not ever see the Wharton School or U of P until about 2 years ago. I ended up in Atlanta for grad school taking a JD/MBA at coca cola U. Such nice weather…</p>
<p>When it came time for H to leave Philly after 10 years, his car broke down and he had to wait two days to get it fixed. Same thing happened to me on my way back to NYC from Atlanta. (It was just meant to be that we should eventually meet up outside of Atlanta and Philly.) Both of those are moving stories for another time. I am sorry, but I am not as good a writer as you, and my stories are better told in person where I can act them out. One of our family traits is a streak of theatricality, which ususally brings down the house around here. It’s in the delivery, you know.</p>
<p>As to the weather, coming down, but not supposed to be alot of accumulation until later today in NJ.</p>
<p>Thanks for that, anothermom2. As I just told another poster in a p.m. I’m sure there will be a nice Denny’s or IHOP near the Days Inn or CircleofHell Motel at whatever airport burgh she ends up in tonight…but it’s a guarantee it won’t be Memphis as that leg is “on-time”.</p>
<p>My son just took off from the Allentown airport less then an hour ago! He’s headed to a College visit near St. Louis - his sister’s alma mater. We probably have three more inches on the ground from today’s snow but it’s hard to judge because the last snow never melted. Hope you can get over here today anothermom2. Route 78 is going to be tricky, but at least it’s used pretty heavily.</p>

<p>Well, I’m heading in to worry at the office instead of the ranch. Keep your fingers crossed for the poor little cedar-chopper kid.</p>
<p>It doesn’t take much for a delay at Philly. That’s why I usually fly out of BWI. In all fairness, however, lots of flights have been canceled going into other airports in the east so the “green button” doesn’t tell the whole story.</p>

<p>Something about this predicament is reminding me of all my own stories of travel diversion etc. I stayed at the Circle of Hell Motel, but there were only two branches I thought. One is in NC just off interstate 85, and one is just outside of Richmond. They had the best biscuits in Richmond. The car ride with my brother was just so so… I don’t think they have a branch in Atlanta, but my guess would be there are quite a few in Philly.</p>
<p>PHL, BWI, and EWR are all in red (excessive delays) on flightstats. But the timing and location of rain snow line seem very vague for this afternoon. Temperatures are surprisingly high and there isn’t much wind, so possibly incoming flights from the South or other places where the weather is ok today will still be functioning.</p>
<p>And for those applicants who didn’t get any mainland interviews and will be heading to Ross or Saba…think what you are missing. (Though success in the Caribbean will still mean great rotations and residencies in cold climates…)</p>
<p>Is the itinerary MEM-PHL-HVN or is she connecting somewhere else (Atlanta or Charlotte maybe?). If she is going through ATL or CLT see if they can get her on a flight into Bradley - its only raining there, flights are on time and she can hop a Ct. Limo down to New Haven, which would allow her to skip PHL entirely.</p>
