<p>I really feel for Mudgette.
You know, more and more interviews are conducted via skype these days. I think this should be an alternative to flying around in winter–much cheaper for all concerned. Maybe the school in CT will consider skype?</p>
<p>We were supposed to fly out of PHL this afternoon and had nonrefundable tickets. With the weather looking so bad, we decided to take advantage of the travel advisory policy - they give you up to 7 days to reschedule a trip with no penalty, so we did. Flight was supposed to take off at noon and is currently saying it’s delayed but still scheduled to take off. I just did not want to take the chance that the delay could last for hours, turn into a cancellation and by then we’d be stuck in the airport in the middle of a blizzard. It was just as easy to reschedule this trip - nothing like a med school interview! Truth is, I think we would have been able to make it out (it’s snowing steadily here since this morning but the roads are warm and still OK) - the really bad part of the storm isn’t supposed to hit until later today. I’ll probably be wishing I got on that plane if the heavy winds knock out my power!</p>

<p>It is actually a mix of snow and rain in these parts right now, and a bit better than an hour ago. However, once those fights start to stack up…problems. </p>
<p>So back on another spring break, this time trying to get out of Hartsfield to LGA, the flight actually circled over LGA for so long waiting for a spot to land that it got diverted to Boston. Of course by then it was snowing a lot in Boston, and it was the ECAC hockey tornament there. Back in those ancient days if they diverted you, then generally had to give you a hotel if you were there overnight. However, they claimed that there were no hotel rooms available due to the hockey tournament, so they would rent a bus to drive to LGA. This was around 10 pm. There were two of my colleagues from coca cola U on the flight, and they said that I should go on the bus, not wait all night in the airport for a flight to LGA in the am. They were taking the bus. Of course my parents were still trying to get home from LGA after the flight was diverted, so I couldn’t call them for advice. (Yes those pre cell phone days.) So, I went on the bus, which left around midnight. I actually fell asleep for a while, but I woke up somewhere in Connecticut to see flashing lights and my friend also woke up saying something like it looks like a disco out there. I think the sirens may have woken us. Our bus hunkered on, arriving in LGA at around 5:45, incredible time if you ask me. Of course the airport was closed, but I somehow found some stranded airport car driver who must have been desperate for $$$ to drive me to my parents house for the money that I had available. I know it sounds unkind to say this, but when I told my mom that a yellow cab got twice the meter rate to LI, and that it would be around $48, she told me to wait for a better deal. By then Dad was at work in Manhattan, and no way she was driving in the snow. Ah, good times…</p>
<p>So far so good. I think. She is on a plane headed to philadelphia. I think. New haven still shows on time. I need to learn iPhone punctuation and capitalization. I think. ;)</p>
<p>What bad luck! I hope all goes well getting there, and once she is there.</p>
<p>STILL nothing sticking on the roads here. They’re saying it’s going to get colder later and the worst will be tonight and early tomorrow morning. I think she has a good chance of making it. Maybe all those crossed fingers are working!</p>
<p>Curm, weather is quite calm here right now No snow falling in South Jersey, couple inches on grass, but roads are clear.

<p>Well, thanks y’all. She made it to Philadelphia. 
So far so good. She has a cc friend (bluedevilmike) meeting her at the airport in New Haven (if she can get there) so…I’m very optimistic. The airline says her flight is “on-time” but she has been seeing lots of delayed flights as she has puddle-jumped around. </p>
<p>She’s staying in New Haven till Sunday so she can do her first look and second look all at the same time. (The ol’ card has been burntalltohell with 13 interview trips and one second-look weekend. So far. :eek: Yep. For those keeping score at home, we are now officially insane.)</p>
<p>Keeping fingers crossed for that flight to NH, but since she’s made it to Philly (yay!) she can always take Amtrak to get there if the flight is canceled. There’s a commuter train line that runs from the airport to 30th St. Station, where she can get a train to New Haven. If you need me to look up both train timetables, I’ll be happy to. On the bright side, the snow still isn’t sticking here…</p>

<p>Us too. Flying Long Island to Philly to Pittsburgh tomorrow afternoon. The bad spot is Philly, I think. We have only rain on Long Island.</p>

<p>She’s on the ground safely in New Haven. Cool. It looked rather dicey there for a while. At one airport she said “Dad. All the Delta flights are delayed. I mean all of them.” Are you on Delta this leg? “Well, no.” Then keep walking to your gate. ;)</p>
