30 years ago today H and I got married in here. My mom insisted they cover up the sculptures with these white-gold banners, lol. It’s a beautiful day to be in Blacksburg.

I find it interesting that you see the rocket launch so clearly all the way in San Diego. We can see them from our house but I’m just an hour plus from the launch site. My husband loves watching.

There’s a nearly professional photographer who posts lots of launches on the local NextDoor so it’s often visible. We’ve been hoping to see one but it’s been cloudy or we forgot to look for it, etc. This time I asked the guy which way to look and it turns out we had to go to the alley to see it; not quite visible from inside our yard. And it was one of the more spectacular launches. Next time we’ll go a few blocks away to the ocean overlook view and see how it looks.

Most launches I get a message from the local TV news station. Sometimes we forget to watch. It’s cool to go on the SpaceX (I think it’s SpaceX) and watch the countdown.

I have an app (SpaceLaunchNow) to keep track and it does have a link to the live launch.

I saw this on a recent walk. I’m not sure what type of tree it is but they’re beautiful when in bloom and there are several in the neighborhood. The backlit sky washes it out a bit but in person it is stunning!

That looks like a Jacaranda - they’re nearing the end of their blooming cycle in San Diego. Beautiful lavender flowers against the sky.

We were at the beach today at low tide - I liked the patterns over the sand as the water receded,

We’re home from the Great Lakes- we stayed in Michigan, so Lakes Huron, Superior, and Michigan. Here are our last rock finds:

In Petosky looking for Petosky stones, the state rock, which is a fossilized coral (the ones with little hexagons in them). We also found lots of Charlevoix stones which are similar to Petosky stones, but with a more snakeskinish appearance.

In South Haven, we found a lot of supposedly rare lightening stones, top row, and what I think is an amethyst (the light purple rock leaning on the little round guy.

Finally a pretty rock my daughter found and a tabletop made from polished slices of stones.

I enjoyed the more colorful rocks we found on Lake Superior, but all of our hunting was fun. Now I have lots of polishing to do!

These rocks are amazing! The big round one by the “amethyst” (sure looks like it to me) is outrageous!

Bird nest on my deck. Anyone know what type of bird this is? We usually get many nesting birds but I’ve not seen this one before.

Looks like a mourning dove to me, but I am certainly no expert.

I agree it looks like a mourning dove. Is it going coo coo? We have pairs that show up periodically in our back yard.
