OMG, I LOVE your house, @taverngirl. THAT’S what Christmas looks like to me.
Thank you! We love it too, but it is a commitment. Thankfully dh is very handy and can do most of what needs doing. It’s an old tavern (thus my username), and the interior is almost all original.
Would love to see interior pics!
Me too! The outside certainly looks original. My house was built about 50 years after yours. I love old houses!
I remember the christmas tree you posted a few years ago, @taverngirl. I loved the tree, but could tell from that photo that your house was special. I love old houses, too.
Your house is fabulous, too, @Catcherinthetoast. It’s like living in a museum (in the best way). How fortunate you are to be able to love this house into the future. I love the trim color in your tree room.
I always think of my 120 year old house as “old” but it’s a youngster compared to ya’ll ; )
We also love old homes but they are certainly a labor of love.
Lovely homes @taverngirl and @Catcherinthetoast!
@taverngirl simply wow!!! Beautiful home and classic.
@ChoatieMom thank you! My wife and I had no idea what we had gotten ourselves into but it has been a lot of fun to try and modernize the house while keeping true to the historic integrity.
One of my favorite things that is visible in some of the photos are the very old horse shoes, marbles, glass etc that we have found on the property over the years. We incorporate into the house anything we come upon.
For example when we first moved in we found a large discarded grist mill stone down by the ravine that splits the property. It’s now our door entry in the spirit of nothing goes to waste.
Mine too! It’s from 1910. It’s a baby
I will post some, just need to do a bit of straightening up first ![]()
It’s beautiful! I love all those windows! And your kitchen is lovely.
Yes, I admire people who can take care of old houses. Our first house was built in 1917, and it was challenging enough. After that experience, we decided to build our second home (DH was the general contractor). Of course, now our house is 29 years old and starting to show its age.
A few decades back, every time MIL saw a house with candles in the windows, she would say, “That’s how they do it in Guilford.” (Family was from Connecticut.) So now we just call them Guilford houses.
I grew up the next town over. Lots of nice old houses there.
I absolutely love it!!!
Really interesting. Have you ever been featured in a magazine?
