Having a great time so far. The first picture, isn’t the neatest, but I like how the water reflects the skyline. Yesterday, we drove up the sea to sky highway to the gondola and also did the Britannia Mine Museum. Highly recommend! It was featured most recently in season 2, episode 2 of The Last of Us, and lots more including the xfiles and supernatural.
We were thinking about doing a hike up mountain at this pull off… and then I turned and saw this sign. Umm maybe not… the views by the car are just fine.
Meet my new friend! He keeps following me around! And an albino wallaby. They have over 50 kangaroos and wallabies.
Beautiful, and you’ve got the luck of the Irish with a long spell of unusually sunny, dry weather. Enoy!
British Columbia ?
Alberta. The ice field parkway between jasper and Banff. We did start off in Vancouver and did the sea to sky highway as well
We love the Banff area. We haven’t made it up to Jasper yet, but hopefully we will. We did a “hike, bike and helicopter” tour of the Canadian Rockies in the early 2000s, and had a great time. We went back several years later on our own and lucked into a spectacular room at a really nice resort near there. Your pics make me sorry we didn’t plan to go back this year. (We seriously considered it, but decided to do Lake Tahoe and Yosemite because my husband has never been).
I thought of you when we saw some bikers. Not an easy ride!!! Beautiful, but hard!
I actually didn’t like Banff itself. I knew nothing of the areas when I booked it, but if that wasn’t high season, I’d hate to see it. We rolled into town around 3 and it took an hour to find parking and we were wayyyyyy out. It just felt like a tourist trap for the super rich. We didn’t stay long
Jasper, OTOH was pretty deserted. I hadn’t realized that wildfires had rolled through last year. They are trying to rebuild and are wanting more tourists. So I was very glad we had booked our lodging for the night there. They have at least two areas of FEMA looking storage shed/trailers for displaced people. Pretty sobering. We talked to several workers at the gondola about their experience
The parkway wasn’t very crowded either. Just Banff and Lake Louise. We didn’t stop in Lake Louise except to eat at someplace quick. There was a flashing sign saying parking was full so we just went on up to Jasper. I much preferred to just pull off and see all the sights off the parkway anyhow.
We drove 1400 miles in a week!
I never knew that Poland was so picturesque. This was in Gdansk, my favorite town that we visited. I took many photos all over the country. I highly recommend it for a trip. It’s beautiful, modern, fun, interesting, and full of history. I never thought I would see Auschwitz or the complex where Hitler spent more than 800 days during the war. It’s surreal, but everyone should do it if they can.
It’s said that if you touch four lion statues in Gdansk, you’ll be back to visit, so I made sure do do it.
My mother was born in Danzig–a free city between WWI and WWII and part of Germany before that.
Hike at Calaveras Big Trees State Park.
Eeww! A slime mold.
Pacific Dogwood I think. The white petals aren’t really petals. They’re bracts, a type of leaf. The flowers are actually the tiny yellow things in the middle.
Canis domesticus
A couple of Giant Sequoias along with some various other conifers.
ID unknown But the canines seem to be enthralled by them.
Oh, wow, so in Gdansk! Before our trip, I hadn’t realized the city’s name had been changed. Have you visited the area?
I did not, but my parents, grandparents, youngest brother and aunt did, once. They found their old street. Alas all family members are gone now.
