Someone is enjoying the bubble bath.
That is a phenomenal picture!!
Not the most amazing pictures but I made a couple of new friends on my walk today! I’ve never seen them on the trail before.
Where do you live? Were you next to a stream or river?
Yes, it’s by a river. Not a big river, maybe 100 yards across. I’ve run on this trail, as we’ve built it over the last 25-30 years. I’ve seen all kinds of wildlife: deer, beavers, foxes, coyote, plenty of snakes, and even a bear once I think - it was dark, but it was pretty big and the right shape. But I’ve never seen these little guys. They were cute. This section of the trail is 10 years old now.
I was just curious. I’ve seen lots of them, but always in the water or very near to a water source (a few feet). Never just roaming around like you observed. Mating season maybe?
When I was young, we lived in a rural area that had drainage ditches along the roads. During wet periods, we’d see them in the shallow water of the ditch in front of our house. During dry periods, they’d make tunnels into the ground leaving a little pile of dirt on top. We’d get a piece of bacon and tie it to a string. Then lower it into the holes and wait for the “crawdad” to grab hold. We’d rarely find one willing to hang on until we pulled it all the way out. But feeling them grab and yank the bait was the kind of fun we had before technology took away boredom fueled adventure.
Those metallic looking sea creatures actually look like sculptures to me and I wouldn’t believe they were real except you said you saw them while hiking. Very cool looking! Nice photos you took.
I must confess I did not have my glasses on when I first looked at these photos. I thought they were scorpions.
And I was wondering how they would be considered “cute”.
Beautiful. That’s on my bucket list
Went to a nursery yesterday. It was a zoo!!
Here are some pictures: Nancy Evans rhododendron and some amazing looking tulip.
Got the rhododendron. And more!
Thank you. My daughter took it of her 2 year old. She’s such a wiggle worm it’s amazing it happened.
Metallica at Lane Stadium at Virginia Tech. First concert ever there. We really lucked out with the weather!
For those who may not be familiar with VT football, the Hokies enter each game to Metallica’s Enter Sandman. And this was the first time Metallica had ever played in the stadium.
Game from two years ago.
These were taken while my dog and I were running on a trail on a tiny island near our house. Until a few years ago the island was farmed, but it’s being restored into a valuable estuary
