One of my favorite places!
Got my phone out of my pocket and took this photo before taking my morning walk. A bit fuzzy but it was pretty.
Along the rail trail that runs from Redondo Beach thru Hermosa Beach to Manhattan Beach. A great way to burn off some of the calories we were eating!
We are visiting our daughter in Philadelphia. Since my ankle is acting up, I’m hanging out in Logan Square while she and DH go through the Franklin Institute (I’ve already been there).
We’ve been home from our Alaska cruise/tour for almost a month, time to post some pics:
Just north of Vancouver Harbor
LOVE the story behind this: This is the Seward Shame Totem Pole, carved by the Tlingits. They hosted a lavish potlatch for William Seward, showering him with expensive gifts. He said thank you, left and never returned. Tradition has it that if honored with a potlatch, one will return the honor within a few years. Seward, obviously did not, hence the shame pole commemorating the insult. Recently some Seward descendents visited the Ketchikan area and saw the pole, heard the story. They were not happy at all and asked how much it would cost to reciprocate, match the gifts, clear Seward’s name. 1.2 million dollars in today’s economy!!! Descendents walked away disappointed.
Mendenhall Glacier, just outside of Juneau.
Nugget Falls, 377 ft drop, adjacent to Mendenhall Glacier. Yellow arrow indicates people, for scale.
This fountain in Juneau depicts a life-size humpback whale. We sent a carefully cropped picture of this to our kids, and for a few minutes 2 of them really thought we’d been that close to a breaching whale!
Southern terminus of the Alaska Pipeline, Valdez AK.
Resurrection Bay, Seward, AK
On the road to Denali
Denali. Only 30% of visitors see Denali. We saw it on Day 2–forest fire smoke blocked the view on the first day there.
Shot from the window of a slow moving bus
On the Alaska Railroad’s Wilderness Express, Denali to Fairbanks. 2 hrs by road but 4 scenic hours by train.
Beautiful pics! Bucket list trip for me. That whale looks very real!
So pretty – all the recent photos!
I went to Comic-Con today and the Lego booth was phoenomenal. They recreated the convention center and the exhibit floor, with extraordinarily accurate depictions.
They even included their own booth - a con within a con within a con.
@Marilyn - I saw the lego convention center on Instagram this morning. It looks amazing.
It was the highlight for me - there were tons of Easter eggs throughout. I was wearing out yesterday but will be back Sunday and look for more details.
Besides the Lego Lego booth, I enjoyed Hall H. They recreated last year’s Marvel panel - with the Hulk attending in the back, and the Robert Downey Jr. reveal.
They even did a tiny diorama of a cosplay photo shoot on the steps; I want to get a better look at that.
