Was it the storms?
DIY Dog grooming, a pic of a silver border collie piece I made wit an AI background, lol, and the eerie impression left on my soldering block when I heated up the piece face down (I had applied fake tarnish to test to see if it was going to resemble a bc at all) during the assembly process (it’s three layers). The impression looks more like my real life border collie than the silver one. Look at the white chest pattern on the impression. [grid]

No, storms were still a couple of days away. Part of it might have been sprucing up and battening down or whatever warships need to do before arriving in port. The earlier maneuvers were likely when the various flying units departed for their bases. And time was needed for decorating with bunting and such.
But I suspect part of it was political- certain people helicoptering over for speeches and such, and part because of the official arrival celebrations. Usually ships arrive back as early in the day as is practical, not at high noon.
