Years ago, I saw this thing on Reddit where a guy unprepared for his college multiple choice test went with his favorite band as the answers – ACDC – and got an 87 on the test.
I’m a baseball fanatic…not so much basketball…so I based my bracket on whether they have good feelings about my kids or my kids’ friends….along the lines of
Vanderbilt – didn’t give my older kid any financial aid. Out.
UNC – egads my kid would love to get in there. In (hoping for good karma by choosing them)
Purdue – my older kid has a good friend going there. Okay in.
FGCU – never heard of it
Mt. St Mary’s – never heard of it.
Princeton – neither of my kids applied but they would have been rejected if they had. Out.
Duke – when my kid is at UNC (see above, admissions office), he’ll love to play them. Okay in.
Oregon – loved a hike I did there once. In .
Wisconsin – hey that’s on my kid’s list. In.
And so forth.
But here’s the moment of glory – until that flagrant foul on Seton Hall yesterday, I had a freakin PERFECT BRACKET!! In first place (along with 50,000 other guys but so what) on CBS Sportsline.
Score.
I love this. I’m not doing a pool this year , but this is usually the way I pick teams.
I just pick my Alma Mater every year. This almost worked once. I didn’t do a bracket this year, but would have put SH high up because I taught there once.
My kids both graduated from schools that will never see the light of the tournament. Well, i guess my S’s could, but unlikely. D was D3 so no.
I root against the schools that have had bad behavior.
So no to Baylor and Kansas. And Duke who usually is scandal free- well I don’t like the kid who keeps tripping his opponents, so they are a no too!
But if Notre Dame can’t win this next round (“hey, a Catholic school, cool”) than my bracket is going to have to leave the country…ugh.
In the first round, the team from the school where my sister’s ex got his Ph.D. played the team from the school where he is a professor. And they played in the city where my sister lives while her son and her ex were in town for their spring break. (Ph.D. school won.) Today, my favorite team, from the school from which I received two degrees and several other family members graduated, scored a bit of an upset. Whoo-hoo!
My high school is going for its third state championship in a row.
