Pillars of the Earth

Anyone planning on watching the 8 episode series on Starz? The first 2 are currently available on-line, but I haven’t seen them yet.

I read the book and would love to see the series. Don’t know if we get Starz, though. Perhaps it will be available on NetFlix.

I plan to watch it on Starz. I also saw that it is also on Encore if some of you have that channel.

Can’t wait…loved the book.

I didn’t even know about the series. I loved, loved, loved the book! Thanks so much.

I also loved the book. I can’t believe that they finally put it on film.

I will be spending a lot of time on planes and trains soon, and was thinking this would be a good book to bring along. After reading the reviews on Amazon, I am hesitating only because a number of reviews mentioned gratuitous sex and violence. For those of you who have read the book, what do you think?

I wouldn’t say there was much of that. I am not comfortable with either of those things and I wasn’t bothered at all. It’s a wonderful book.

There is sex and violence in the book, but I thought it was in context of the story and the times, not gratuitous, in my opinion. I haven’t read the sequel yet, but my d has and loved it also. I also like Follet’s Night Over Water, but I guess that’s a different thread.

I just got my alumni magazine. One of the professors was recommending the book as a great summer read. There were some other interesting books on the list, too:
[Yale Alumni Magazine](http://www.yalealumnimagazine.com/issues/2010_07/summer_reading369.html)

Thanks for the post mentioning the series being on Encore. We do not have Starz, but do have Encore. We will be taping it for a family member who loved the book but does not have cable. Looking forward to seeing it!

It was one of my favorite books. I just saw the first two are on On Demand, so I will be catching up this weekend.

It’s also on Hulu.

What episode is on tonight on Encore? I am going to tivo it, but don’t want to watch it if there are others that I haven’t seen.

^^^Tonight is the premiere. !0:00 ET.

pageturner – yup, just got my copy of that alumni magazine, too. I really enjoyed the book, and, as always, I’m glad to have read the book before seeing the movie. Nice to know it’s on Hulu.

I just watched the first episode on demand, and loved it. Makes me want to reread the book.

Yay! So glad to hear that, gamom2.

LOVED Pillars of the Earth. Also loved the sequel World Without End.

They are the kind of books that you are sad to get to the end and just wish it would keep going. I recommend them to everyone who hasn’t read them.
Don’t be put off by the thickness of the book. You’ll fly thru it.

I’m so mad I don’t get Starz. I’ll have to check for Encore but don’'t think I have that one either:(

Did someone say we can watch it on Hulu online? Is that after the episodes air on TV?

Episodes 1 and 2 are currently available on the Starz website and available to watch for free even if you are not a subscriber. I don’t know if they will post future episodes on-line or if you will have to wait for DVD release.
