Pineapple Sightings - Post Here!!!!

Moved our D in today and almost burst out laughing when I saw one of her roommates set up her ceramic pineapple. For those of you not following along, another CC poster started The Great Pineapple Story here: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/parents-forum/2011338-roommate-brought-22-pillows-4-lamps-7-towels-and-a-large-ceramic-pineapple-p1.html

Fortunately, she had fewer other accessories and only 4 or 5 pillows!

Thought it would be fun if everyone who spotted a pineapple posted here!

Ok, I’ll play.
There is a pineapple on the roof of a building, as you head south from Baltimore on I-95. My son first noticed it when he was in his car seat. We didn’t believe him at first, but it was and still is there. I have no idea what building its on.

Here’s a dancing pineapple…

I saw one when I was doing last minute shopping with my daughter for move in and busted out laughing. See avatar photo.

Before we know it students in Oregon will be decorating their rooms with pineapples ironically.

I too was highly informed, prepared and inspired by the thread you linked. After we moved daughter into her dorm, we headed to Walmart for some additional dorm necessities. Going through the aisles, I found a ceramic pineapple piggy back. I told daughter this is a must have for any contemporary dorm room. She replied “hell no”.

I like pineapples.

The absurd part of the other thread was the dorm full of stuff, and the behaviour of the people tht thought it would be OK to commandeer the entire room and fill it up with nonsense. A single pineapple seems a fine amount of nonsense.

In colonial seaports such as Newport, RI, displaying a pineapple on one’s door was a symbol of hospitality. Any connection, or am I just completely out of the loop pop culture-wise?

I was dropping my nephew off at Franklin and Marshall College and we were staying at the Double Tree Resort in Lancaster, PA. There were two ceramic pineapples at the check-in counter

You are not completely out of the loop. Yours is one of many reasons they are popular. Pineapples remain a symbol of hospitality to many.

Ds2 just told me this week that pineapples supposedly are a sign that you’re a swinger. =))

There are pineapples on the sign at the entrance to our subdivision. Have no idea if there are swingers in the neighborhood, other than the kids who have hanging tires on the trees…

Saw this nice pineapple care package for college students.
It says," Be a pineapple. Stand tall and wear a crown and be sweet on the inside."

A quick google search had the pineapple used as a door knocker being the sign of a swinging house and it is trendy to use fruit on instagram for relating to relationships. A pineapple means “it’s complicated”. A pineapple outside has always meant hospitality where I have grown up and lived, and when a hostess brought it inside, it was an indication for guests who had not left already, to go home.

So… Sponge Bob was a swinger?

My sighting is more personal. Day before the 22 pillows story broke, we met at D2’s for lunch. She’s not one to buy much excess “stuff” (clothes, shoes, books but not chotchkies.)

You guessed it. She wanted to show me her new ceramic pineapple thing. White, with gold colored leaves.

…yes, like mamaedefamilia’s avatar, but as if sliced in half from top to bottom.

Pineapple door knockers mean it’s a Swinger abode??? I have never heard that identification. I’d better hurry up and pry off the pineapple thing off my back gate.

I’m guilty of a lot of pineapple stuff, including intricate pineapple handles on some of my kitchen cabinets. Boy, that sounds a lot tackier than they really are. It’s not so bad in real life

The idea (rumor?) that some swingers may
have adopted the symbol doesn’t mean much.

Traditionally, “the fruit symbolizes those intangible assets we appreciate in a home: warmth, welcome, friendship and hospitality.”

Good enough for me.

Call me cynical, but I have a hard time believing young people view pineapples in the same way we parents view them. Someone needs to ask about them in the students’ section of this web site. But then again, maybe we don’t want to know.

@toledo, you are cynical.
