Pitt - Class of 2031 Applicant Discussion

My D was just accepted as a business major tonight after receiving an email to check her portal at about 7:20 She applied 8/4 and her application was marked complete on 8/6. Good luck to everyone still waiting!

Congrats! Was your D test optional or using scores? My D applied 8/6, marked complete 8/7 and under review 8/10. In state and test optional. I’m wondering if test optional applicants may have a longer wait than those submitting SAT/ACT in the application cycle or if makes no difference.

My in state daughter went test optional and found out last Friday 8/28. She applied 8/2. So I don’t think test optional matters for timing if class rigor is there.

That’s great news! My D is right behind timing-wise so hopefully she hears soon! Congrats again!

I note in prior cycles, some people would hear sooner, some later, and it wasn’t always clear why. Not the most satisfying situation, but I would personally try to avoid speculating while waiting.

11 days after my son received his acceptance letter, he received his acceptance into the graduate school guaranteed admissions program! He’s thrilled! Next up, honors college results and financial package! :folded_hands::crossed_fingers:t4:

My out of state daughter checked her portal this evening and was accepted to Dietrich with guaranteed admission to School of Public & International Affairs. Fingers crossed for a merit offer later!

My son just applied last night , in state, how long would it take to get result ?

Question , if the acceptance offer comes through and then need to wait for merit offer later ? When would need to make decision to take it ? Also can we negotiate the merit offer if the SAT score went up ?

In past years the committee that awards merit scholarships started meeting in December and continued right up until March 1. There doesn’t seem to be any rhyme or reason to when kids get their scholarship letters. It isn’t first come first served, it isn’t that better candidates hear early. I’ve been watching this for years (my oldest graduated from Pitt in 2020) and every year it’s the same. It seems completely random.

I don’t know about negotiating scholarships. I haven’t heard of Pitt doing a lot of that. They don’t base scholarships strictly off stats so I can’t imagine a higher SAT would affect it. Maybe if you got a better offer from a peer school there would be a chance

All students must commit by May 1. No difference for those that get scholarships and there is no benefit from committing early other than the peace of mind of being done. Pitt does not do first come first serve housing.

My daughter is in her 2nd year at Pitt and in her admission cycle she was accepted late Sept. and notified of her merit award around Thanksgiving. She was in-state and test optional.

Congratulations! Do you know when she applied and when her application was noted as complete? Just trying to gauge a possible timeline for my son who also has applied as an OOS to Dietrich.

My S24 was accepted in October and didn’t get a merit offer until March. So, it definitely can be a while!
