^The least they could have done is stole from Nancy Reagan.
I don’t follow every word of media closely but it is my understanding she completed one year of architecture before heading off to modeling. I don’t see how this has anything to do with knowing about plagiarism and not attending college is not something to hold against someone. Some of the comments here are just hateful and really reflects on the person making them.
Actually I have been avoiding facebook and twitter hoping to have just a bias free discussion here.
But some of the comments here are the type posted on social media sites which I was hoping to avoid.
I think it is hard to have a discussion these days without conveying our personal beliefs especially when discussing something related to the political arena so since I’ve had more than my dose of negativity for today I am stepping out.
I think it is hard to be in the limelight like this where there is so much scrutiny of her words. It is as if she is being interrogated by the FBI. It takes a lot of courage to be able to give a speech like that being in the public eye and I for one would hate to be in that position.
raclut, it’s about truth. No one cares whether she finished college or not, but don’t lie about it. It’s not Melania herself coming under fire; she came off well. It’s the campaign’s reaction, denial and diversion that is the problem. I’m sure she’s a nice, pleasant lady.
@raclut, The problem is not that she does not have a college degree. It’s the allegation that she claims to have a degree, when in fact she dropped out of college after her freshman year to pursue a modeling career that is troubling. See the difference?

I, for one, would like to know if she is being wrongly accused of padding her resume or if she is actually, like many in her circles, a LIAR. Seems it would be easy to clear this up, but…
From the Disney Frozen defense to the My Little Pony defense…you can’t make this stuff up
@raclut --okay, one more time–the intent was not to say this is the same as a college paper, but to say that it is an amazing teaching moment for students who write papers. If for no other reason, that the excuses and explanations are similar to those that students make, and think will get them out of trouble.
That’s why I posted it–like I said, talk to your own student folks. Because whatever you think of this in the context of politics, in college, it’s plagiarism.
And the examples of excuse-making going on are really dangerous for susceptible students who think these excuses will wash–because they won’t.
Wait! Politicians are crooked? I’m shocked! Shocked, I say.
Let’s see the media compare and contrast the honesty and character of the two candidates’ spouses.
I would guess that it’s much more difficult for a teacher/professor to catch plagiarism in the written form as opposed to the spoken form, correct? I mean, in the history of education there have to be thousands of instances where presentations and speeches are rehashed from a previous students, right? But how do you catch them? No software to run speeches through I don’t think.
I don’t know–I teach writing. Even if speechifying was involved, they’d have to give me a written copy, which is searchable.
We have a lot of checks to make sure the words students write are their own–even if they don’t show up on Turnitin or Google.
“Let’s see the media compare and contrast the honesty and character of the two candidates’ spouses.”
Bill Clinton has an awesome track record as president on the vast majority of things I care about. His character issues are related to his marriage, about which I couldn’t care less. (I don’t particularly care about Trump’s infidelities either. I will only care if he hypocritically attacks the Clintons for them. See the difference?)
Anyway, Tatin, the Clintons don’t issue dog whistles to the neo-Nazis.
I was referring to the perjury, lying under oath and sexual harassment.
It really would have been shocking and classy for Melania to have attributed the quote to Michelle…“As our current First Lady so aptly put it…” The audience would not have known whether to cheer or boo.
@Pizzagirl --“I just think it’s funny that it’s Michelle’s speech.”
That would be the speech written for Michelle by Hillary Clinton’s former speechwriter (Sara Hurwitz).
You’re right. The two are completely different.
A plagiarized college paper exposes your stupidity to one college professor. A plagiarized US Presidential Convention speech exposes your stupidity to billions of people.
I’d have sympathy for her if beforehand she hadn’t stated so emphatically that she wrote the speech herself with only a little help.
I was giving her the benefit of the doubt and giving her credit for being more than arm candy. But she’s just arm candy.
There are some people claiming she Rick rolled the convention
Maybe the intern from KTVU is a mole in the campaign.

Never a good idea to just read what is in front of you…
Nobody writes their speech - not Barrack Obama, Michelle Obama, or Melania Trump. They put down basic ideas and what they want to get across. Speech writers put the stuff together to appeal to their demographic, organize it etc. It is the speech writers’ responsibility to make certain this cr** doesn’t happen. Melania is no Einstein and neither is anybody else here on CC or in politics.
This has become way too political and should be shut down.
@dietz199 - that news report still makes me truly laugh out loud!! I remember sending that snipit to DIL and DS who were at work in the area when that was broadcast. They could not believe it. DS’s response was “Oh THATS what all the interns are chuckling over on their laptops”!
