Plan of Action

Right:

I’m a junior who goes to school in the UK but I live in Colorado so it makes sense for me to go to college in the USA. I know exactly what I need to do but I’m not too sure how to go about it:

I’ll be applying in Fall 2008 so:

When should I take the SAT?
How do I prepare for the SAT and Subject Tests?

You should take the SAT I on December (1st) and the SAT II’s on January, I think it’s on the 24 (these are the dates for sittings outside the US). I think most application deadlines, in the case of RD, are around late January, so you should start checking what universities you want to apply to. You can get any of the SAT books to study for them, check out amazon or something for this.

js2, smellymelly (interesting name :P) is not applying for fall 2008 but during fall 2008 (for fall 2009). There’s no need to take the SATs in a rush.

American students are usually advised to take the SATs in the spring of junior year for two reasons: their mind is “programmed” on academics as opposed to the fall of senior year after summer break, and you have the chance to retake the tests in the fall of senior year if you are not happy with your scores.

As for preparation, I would suggest taking a couple of practice tests and see what areas you have to work on specifically.
