Planned course of study asked in Auburn App

I’ve been working on my Auburn University application and one section that i’ve been skeptical about is the “planned course of study” section which asks for me to put down what field i plan to major in. They don’t have an “undecided” field and i honesty am not set on any specific major, despite there being some areas that interest me more than others. How important in the selection process, and my studying at the school, is this section of the application. Does it matter what i put down and will I be forced to study THAT at the university? Is it like that for most applications, or is it to just get an idea of what the applicant is interested in?

Also, if i’m interested in engineering, is there a separate application to fill out for Auburn’s engineering? How about for most other schools for engineering? How can i find out? Thanks.

If you need help with apps I’d suggest asking on the University of Alabama threads, they’re very helpful and have many who check regularly. And if you were looking into applying to Alabama they have tons of info!

No separate applicant for engineers, however you are considered for different scholarships within engineering then arts and sciences. Listing your intended major as poly-sci and changing to econ will not make a big difference. I’d call Admissions. This is an easy answer and you’ll know you’re getting the right information.

Respectfully, while applying to Alabama is a great idea if you are interested there as well (options are great!!), their applications are not universal so I wouldn’t ask there. It may be the same answer, it may not.
