Planning to major in STEM, but extracurriculars don't reflect that?

Hello, all!
The title is self-explanatory: I’d like to be a biomedical engineering/biotechnology/genetics major (depending on what school I end up going to) with a minor in journalism/communications. However, I didn’t know what I was planning to major in until later this year, and my extracurriculars throughout high school don’t reflect that.
(freshman year - track + xc, key club, csf; sophomore year - literary journal submissions, wrote for an online magazine that ended up closing/thought catalog, key club, csf, ensemble in a play, 100 hr comm service; junior year (this year) - science olympiad, tennis, home ec club, gsa, key club, csf, nhs, mho, leadership)

I’m not really sure what to do to rectify this problem, as I feel as though it will be a glaring demerit on my application to colleges I plan to apply to :’)
Sorry also if this is in the wrong forum!

Selective schools are not interested in one-dimensional students who have no interests beyond their academic focus area. Non-major related ECs are an opportunity to show that u can walk and chew gum at the same time.

And major-related ECs show you’ve gotten some experience, tested this interest. Why not add something now? Sci Olympiad is good. What else can you add?

But the real answer is: depends on the colleges you target.

Colleges like to see well-rounded students, as well! I wouldn’t worry too too much about it, few people know what they want to do in high school period. You do still have a bit of time to take up a few STEM extracurriculars… also, internships for high schoolers and job shadowing could really benefit and make you stand out.

I was going to join AMC, but my parents told me that I had to give up some clubs.

True; I probably only have a //real// chance at University of Washington, maybe UC Davis/Santa Cruz, unlike Stanford/Ivies, etc. :’)
