Hello everybody,
My parents have decided to move to NYC next summer and I would really appreciate if some one could help me with my chances of getting into Blearley School (NYC), Trinity School (NYC) and Philips Andover Academy.

I’m Thai, 14 years old. Currently finished with Year 10 (9th Grade) in the UK, and I’ll be studying year 11 here as well and taking 12 GCSES. I’m applying to the schools for 11th grade(starting 2012)
From 1st-7th grade I studied in international schools in Lebanon, Belgium and Taiwan. For the last 2 years I’ve been in a boarding school in the UK.
Fees are not an issue and I will not need any kind of financial assistance. I’m not a U.S. citizen, but my father does own a business and some property in U.S.

Languages: Fluent in English + Thai, decent at French + Mandarin

ECs: Junior Prefect, Model United Nations, School Newspaper

Social Work: Habitat for Humanity during the school year and I volunteer during the summer at an organization in Thailand that designs websites for NGOs

Sport:On the school team for tennis and athletics

Dance: I’ve studied classical Thai dance for 6 years, Ballet for 3 years and Modern Dance for a year.

I’ve enrolled in SAT coaching classes for summer, and I’ll be taking them the PSAT year. My grades have always been pretty good, and I’ve been within the top 3 in my year at my boarding school for the past 2 years.

I also started a radio channel at school last year along with a couple of seniors

Do you mean Brearley? If so, that school is amazingly difficult to get into, easily as competitive as some of the top prep schools. I’m not sure if they have openings at all for 10th grade through 12th grade, but I’m not an expert. It looks like you certainly have all of your bases covered in extracurriculars, but what are your grades like? If you have top notch grades, and a decent SSAT score, then I’d assume that you’re a good candidate for Andover. Not sure about Trinity and Brearley, though. It’s competitive for everyone.

Ooops, that was a typo :-S I do mean Brearly. My grades have always been at the top of my class, we don’t have a GPA system in the UK, but my grades for all my subjects last year were As. Is the SSAT available to take at test centers like the SAT? Because British boarding schools do not offer them.

brearley is super insanely competitive to get into, more so than any boarding school (in my opinion). you look like a good applicant but tbh if you want to go to brearley, starting in grade 11, i think you need to be out-of-this-world incredible. also, there are only ~60 girls in each grade, and there’s no guarantee that a spot will open up, and i know that lots of girls who get into brearley are connected in some way (still brilliant, though)

trinity is also ultra competitive, but their student body is significantly larger so i think that will help in admissions.
keep in mind brearley and trinity typically don’t take students in grade 11, only when spots open up, so… andover takes new juniors, though, so you might have more luck there.
you seem like a great dancer, so i think SPS (st pauls school) in concord, NH is worth looking into. best of luck!

You should broaden your list of day schools in NYC as well as your list of boarding schools. If staying at your current BS in the UK is an option that protects you against the possibility of not being accepted at your U.S. choices. If not, you need to make certain that you are accepted somewhere. If you’d like to PM me and tell me what you’d like in a day school, I’d be happy to give you some perspective on the NYC day schools. This site is an excellent place to learn about the boarding schools. You can also research the boarding schools on [Boarding School Review - College-Prep & Jr. Boarding Schools](http://www.boardingschoolreview.com)

DiveAlive- I was worried about getting admitted for 11th grade too. I think I’ll take Brearley off my list and keep Trinity on as a dream school. I don’t want to go through a demanding admission process for 2 schools that do not usually admit students in the 11th grade. I’ll look into the schools you mention, I would love a school with a good dance program Thank you xxx

The Masters school and the Hackley school are near NYC. They are boarding schools but you can go home on the weekends. There’s also an international IB school in Terrytown NY. You can find all these schools on boardingschoolreview.com.
