The decision will come in 3 days. No one on this forum is an admissions officer. If you want the truth, you won’t get it here, as no one knows.

The whole point of this forum is quite literally to chance people, I don’t really get what your point is.

Why is NYU your “dream school”.

What is your intended major?

Do you have any financial constraints? Are you and your family fine being full pay at NYU without taking on any debt?

There are a LOT of very good universities in the USA, more elsewhere, and you can do very well with a degree from any one of at least a few hundred colleges and universities.

Also, sociology and psychology are areas where some form of graduate school is at least possible. Graduate school can involve additional expense. It can be a good idea to budget for this before you start university.

To me, NYU looks like a high reach. I think that rejection is more likely than acceptance. You will regardless know in a few days.

The gallatin school overall at NYU doesn’t have majors - it is a school for individualized study where students can design their own personalized majors and ways they’d like to study. Gallatin also statistically has a higher acceptance rate compared to CAS and Stern.

In reality, then, you shouldn’t worry too much about your GPA. It’s indeed a bit below average, but your circumstances make a big difference, and admissions officers will recognize that. Your extracurriculars are strong, and they show genuine passion and initiative, which can often speak louder than numbers. Gallatin isn’t extremely competitive compared to other NYU programs, and since NYU uses a holistic process, they look beyond just grades and test scores. They care about your story, how you think, and what you bring to the campus community.

If I were reviewing your application, I would lean toward offering you admission, because you seem to have the qualities that matter most: depth, creativity, and self-awareness. But take this with a grain of salt, as I am not an admissions officer and nowhere qualified to be one. I am in the same boat as you. I stand by my word, believing that this “chance me” will do nothing; it will only build more stress. None of us knows anything, and at this point, we are all just guessing. It is the blind leading the blind.

We still have other applications to work on, schoolwork to focus on, and goals that matter beyond this moment. Put your attention there. NYU will make its decision no matter how many times we refresh the page.

If you get in, that is your path opening. If you do not, it is not a failure. It means you are being guided toward a different route where you will grow, improve, and come back stronger. Every path works out exactly the way it needs to, even when you cannot see it yet.

So breathe, stay grounded, and focus on what you can actually control. The rest will fall into place.

I can’t chance you but to even begin to help we need your unweighted GPA. Calculate it by taking all your core courses (engl, Soc studies, science, math, and foreign language), give 4 points for every A (ignore + or -), 3 points for every B and so on. Add those points up and divide by the number of core courses. If your unweighted GPA is below 3.5, Gallatin is a high reach.

Did you run NYU’s net price calculator and it showed an affordable amount?

What is your sense of your class rank? Top 25%? Top 50% How does your HS counselor categorize NYU?

It’s important that you have a balanced list of schools. Do you have any affordable admits? If not, what is your safety/highly likely school that is also affordable?

This must be difficult. Who will be the child’s primary caregiver when you go to college?

If it’s ED, then this means you’ll attend no matter what, but you need to make sure they will provide adequate financial aid. If you get in and it’s unaffordable, what will you do?

What did their Net Price Calculator (NPC) say about your estimated Cost of attendance?

Your unweighted GPA will be calculated by the university. The weighted GPA is based on grading factors at your school. Although it’s good, it’s not as strong as other applicants. Same with your SAT.

if you are low income, your family wont qualify for large loans.

There’s no such thing as a “Dream School”. You can’t pin all your hopes on one school. Every school is different. If you get in, great! If you don’t get in you will never know why.

Before NYU changed the topic of their supplemental essay, Gallatin used to look closely at the “why nyu” essay to see how the student really planned to take advantage of the interdisciplinary nature of the school to approach their academics (and, I suspect, to try ensure the student was not just trying to back-door into CAS). So it was always hard to chance because the essay was so important. From your first post, despite the change in essay topic you seem to have still managed to convey that interest in interdisciplinary research so hopefully that will be an asset. Your stats are a little low, but your ECs sound great. It’s a reach, but I personally think you have a decent chance. Btw, my daughter graduated from Gallatin last year (transferred in from LS core after sophomore year) and she loved it. Wishing you best of luck!

Agree with others - we can’t chance you - in part because you don’t list an unweighted GPA.

This will be the same at any other school, if you ask for a chance outside of NYU.

Take your core classes (not PE) and give yourself 4 points for an A, 3 for a B, 2 for a C.

Then add up and divide by the # of classes.

If you have many AP classes, your UW GPA will be much less.

If you have few or none, it’s likely close to the 3.6. Some schools or states bonus Honors, others don’t.

So you really need to show that.

In most cases, ECs won’t make up for academics. But - you have a unique story - you are very involved, you have an impactful youtube channel and you support your family.

You didn’t apply via Questbridge which I would have liked to see. There are other meets need schools - where you can even make your own major.

I hope you applied to others or are taking advantage of your own state’s low income programs - just in case.

Best of luck.
