I’ll be taking the SAT 1 this November and expect a 2200+ score… SAT 2s Im expecting a 800 on Math 2 a 750+ Physics.
I’ll be applying to Cornell, Princeton, Yale, Harvard, Stanford, MIT, Cornell, University of California, Texas A&M and University of Michigan. Please chance me. I’d really appreciate all your advice.
I’ll also be applying for financial aid.
Thanks

Having seen the results from past 2 years of indian students, the general trend is
For HYPMS (or any college that gives substantial aid)

  • be in the top 1% of your school class (most were #1 or #2 in their school)
  • 2250+ SAT scores, and close to 800 in Subject tests (take 3 subject tests )
  • ECs are good enough (though spread thin) - how you write your essay will matter (I see a lot of hobbies and interests but no clear leadership/awards which should be in the high school /national level)
  • And last but not the least, if you are from a well known (feeder type school) from a big city, I think chances are better since HYPMS seem to recruit from international schools or other well known schools.
-Of course, if you have won international science competitions, that is a big factor for the HYPMS.

Cornell, Texas A&M, UCs, michigan - you have a better chance, but aid is very limited there…I think Texas A&M gives some aid for really high scoring internationals.

Found this post on caltech chances. I would say this is almost true of HYPMS (again , I repeat - almost not exact criteria)

Thanks for the reply!
I’ve been #1 throughout my high school.
Unfortunately I don’t belong to a feeder school but my school has Stanford, MIT and Cornell admits in the past 2 years.
As far as the essays go, I know I could write good essays.
I have been Student of the year in 9th , 10th and 12th grade. I also have captained by soccer team and cricket team to winning a tournament in 10th grade. I definitely expect good SAT scores as well. Will yhis be good enough?
What chances do you think I’d have for Harvard?

That thread did help! Thanks a ton!
