What grades will show on his final transcript? Quarter grades? Two semester grades? One full year grade?
I don’t think Madison would rescind for several C’s, but I don’t work in admissions there. They may ask for an explanation for the drop, and/or start your S on academic probation, and/or even limit the classes he could take first semester. I would avoid any D’s or F’s.
All you can do is to continue to encourage him to finish strong. Don’t add to the stress by talking about potential consequences for his grades. Good luck to him.
The high school will send only the final grades of the year (earlier during the application process they already sent the first and second quarter grades). He will not get D or F but now realistically with only 2-3 weeks left and not many test/quiz left as they focus to the AP exams, I think realistically his final grades for each class will be in B- to C.
So he had an A-/B for the first two quarter and the last two quarters’ performance will result in the year’s grade being B-/C? Has he talked with his teachers and counselor about his grades?
He should make sure he has turned in all his homework from the time he was sick, and be doing everying he can to get B- and not C. Has he asked the teachers if there is any opportunity to bring his grade up…extra credit and the like?
I don’t think they will rescind for C’s, but again, I don’t work there.
You will drive yourself crazy googling this on the internet. That one example you posted is old…15+ years old, and who knows if it’s real. I understand that this is stressful, but don’t make it worse on yourself by reading stories on the internet!
Pleaae don’t create problems where none currently exist. Chances are things will be fine. In the unlikely event he is rescinded for two C’s you will have plenty of time to form a Plan B. Do not get the student worked up about this – nerves and anxiety could detract from finishing the year strong.
The second quarter has 3 Cs (5 APs and 1 Honor) as he had to spend more time to the 20 college apps.
The third quarter is similar. He had 3 sickness period last 2-4 days, and also several trips to visit the colleges. The teachers said he was late on homeworks (and they could not accept the submission pass due, though I encourage him now to do those assignments anyway for the sake of knowledge enrichment)
He is studying more now to raise the grades of the last quarter, with 3 remaining weeks, to B- hopefully.
