Please Mr. UPS man, come our way!!!

Spring,
As has been mentioned in many other posts, this is first and foremost, an HONORS (merit based) scholarship. They do expect top GPAs and SAT/ACT scores (e.g like 2250 SAT was mentioned in the past). On their application, on the teacher recommendation section, they mention

and at the top of the application they say

The project is an addtional way of expressing creativity. But it is not likely that even an exceptionally creative project will
matter if the student doesn’t meet their base requirements for students they feel will be the top of their class and have the requisite academic credentials. There are lots of very bright and talented students applying for this scholarship. Tulane gets to pick the cream of the crop with the DHS.

I just got my package! I’m so excited!!!

Congrats Gabby!

Great news gabby!!!

Congratulations gabby! That’s so exciting.

So in an attempt to keep my small flicker of hope alive, where have the packages been delivered so far? I don’t want specific towns or even states, but is it mostly in the South? I live up in Wisconsin, so I’m kind of hoping maybe it would be delivered tomorrow. If someone’s just as north and me and has gotten it, then I’ll let it die.

i got one!! i live in lafayette, louisiana, if anyone wants to figure out shipping times or the like

smae here! im in colorado, so im holding on to some hope… does anyone know what shiping method they paid for?

I’m from New Jersey.

I am in North Georgia, but I was able to call the distribution center in Dalton and was told my address did not have anything being delivered to me today. If they sent them out yesterday we would have gotten it today so the wait for us has been over…Hope you all find out something soon…The waiting is the hardest part!

congratulations Gabby! Absolutely terrific! We are in Michigan so it is now 7:01 pm and not deliveries. On well. :(

OK, whew. In between flights.

First, further congrats to those getting the good word in the last few hours. I know how completely relieved and excited you are.

Second, just to get back to the “best students” kerfuffle. Like jym says, there are academic and other minimums that must be met first. That is why I tried to (gently, I hope) tell some people that their chances were not very good or even were negligible. But even with stellar stats and other factors that meet the criteria, there are still at least twice as many students, maybe even three or four times, as can win the DHS. This is where the box project plays a key role. I can tell you from the presentation made at the DHS breakfast last August and conversations I had with two of the committee members that they take the box project very seriously.

As far as the wording they use “ONLY THE TOP 75 MEMBERS OF THE INCOMING CLASS”, I suppose I can quibble with it on a couple of grounds. First of all, they can actually only say, at best, the TOP 75 TULANE APPLICANTS THAT ALSO APPLIED FOR THE DHS. We already know some winners won’t, in fact, attend Tulane, and we also know that some people that probably could have won and will be attending Tulane didn’t apply for the DHS. And “top”, after all that analysis, is a subjective term, which could include the creativity that went into the box project. Hence my saying it is really just a little hyped up “marketing speak”, but obviously they want to be as upbeat as possible in the letter. After all, if you were Dean MacLaren, would you really want to put in all those qualifiers? lol

congrats to everyone! now that there’s been one recieved in nj it’s time for me to give up  looks like it’s charleston for me this fall!

congratulations to all those who got the scholarship. I wasn’t expecting to get one and, well, i didn’t. It’s been nice talking to you and unfortunately you will not be seeing my at tulane in the fall most likely. That scholarship was my only chance of being able to afford the school and it didn’t work out. I’m not exactly sure where i will end up going or that wherever it may be will be as great a school as tulane. Thanks again, and fellow students congratulations and parents too, i’m sure you are all very proud and you very well should be. :D

We are in Chicago area.

Okay, so I didn’t get one if they got up to Chicago. I’m just a few hours away from Chicago, it would’ve gotten here today. That’s okay, I guess. I’m a little disappointed in myself, but not surprised.

Tulane’s not out yet…but it all depends on financial aid now. :-/

No package here in TX. Congrats to all the winners - it’s really something to be proud of!

My D has great stats and ECs (2300 SAT, ranked 2/600, 11 APs, 4.0 UW / 4.67 UW, class Pres for three years, three years varsity sports, etc, etc). She got the $25K with Honors offer from Tulane, but she didn’t put a lot of effort into the box project. It was a creative idea, but she just didn’t spend the time to develop it and showcase it.

The difference between the $25K and the DHS is going to put Tulane out of the running when compared to other offers on the table.

I’m disappointed because I love Tulane as I’m sure all you winners will too!

congrats to those who got the scholarships Job well done, you and your families have much to celebrate in your acheivement!!! not unexpected, no ups package here but i just want to say, thank you to all those on this board that are so helpful to all of the anxious students and parents during this application process. while disappointment may be felt today, no one should lose sight of how exceptional all of these students are, scholarship or not…this scholarship is the icing on the cake perhaps, but most here have already received a wonderful gift from tulane based on all their hard work and acheivements throughout highschool in the form of acceptance into honors or a merit scholarship. hopefully while disappointed not to receive it, please dont be disappointed in yourself…you all have so much to be proud of!! while tulane will probably be off my son’s list now, it is a wonderful school and those who go will be enriched as will the school by having you attend, but those who dont will excel wherever they go.

I got mine earlier today via UPS Next Day Air. I’m in eastern Virginia, if that provides any sort of context or help.

Congrats Reparker thats great. would you be willing to share your stats? I guess everyone has been notified. I am still waiting to exhale.

Nothing in Texas, but the DH Scholarship at Tulane was a long-shot. Time to regroup and look at the other scholarship options at Okla State, Utah State, and Arkansas.

Congratulations to everyone who earned the Scholarship. Be proud of the honor - you’ve earned it.
