Plebe Summer PPW Ideas??

A group of Charlie/6 parents have already gotten together a a group online, as I know several other companies have, meeting through CC, DropShots and List Serv. Anyway… ProfMom has already given me a great ideas for PPW and I am looking for more… namely, we are thinking of making a Company T-Shirt for the Parents/Fams to wear Friday Aug 10 at PEP.

Was wondering if other Moms’ could share what their Mids groups did in past years… THANKS!!

BTW… anyone from C/6 or know of C/6 parents…, drop me a note!

Any parents from I (India) company out there besides me? If not, I’ll have a California cousin shirt to wear, M2L!

Good thread idea!!

HA! YOU CRACK ME UP NURSEYPOO! We have been emailing people through ListServ although it seems to have run out. N Co has 24 parents! pretty Good out of 40!!

This is all new folks, 08 company parents didn’t do anything like what you’re describing(at least I didn’t see it). All I saw at PEP were a lot of happy, excited, bleary-eyed parents scoping out the best place to see their plebe.

One suggestion? This is probably not the weekend to plan a get-together with the company parents and plebes. The kids have been together, 24/7 for seven weeks and as much as they may like each other, they probably don’t want to spend time with each other during PPW. All the plebes I knew what to get the heck out of Dodge and find a comfortable bed!

We thought about that and decided the parents would get together Thursday night before PPW  If I know Lola, and I think I do… haha, she will want to Sleep and read Harry Potter Book. I guess I will do lots of watching her sleep and reading which is fine with me… OH… and Killer’s 18th Birthday Cake! Forgot about that!

Most of our pictures of Boy were in various stages of sleep (even when he was awake)

Don’t be surprised if they start to get tense as Sunday Evening Meal Formation draws near…

Well, our cousins have to come over for birthday cake!

However, I have to ask if there are any other “I” company 'rents out there?

last year Oscar company parents got together and had a great PPW showing…

first, t-shirts specially designed for the day… we all wore them the morning of PEP… we designed them on powerpoint, sent them to everyone with directions on printing out the design on transfer paper, etc… the end result was great, and we were spotting each other all day on the yard and in town (it worked so well 27th company repeated a similiar thing for Herndon)…

then we organized the parents to bring in “treats” for Oscar’s “Can”…

i purchased a 40-gallon tin can… painted an oscar with a lid on his head that “popped” out of the top… and then we filled it to overflowing (and i mean overflowing" with bags of “g’bge”…

the g’bge was the fun part…
we had each family “pledge” an item… all sorts of stuff, from tasty treats to bleach pens and shout wipes… and they brought “80” of their item…
we met at 0500 hrs on ripley field… and in short order, had sorted and packed 80 “trash bags” with one of every item brought… enough bags for each plebe and cadre…

The can was overfilled to the brim…
and we (the parents) got a salute from Oscar company at the end of PEP…while all other companies faced the main stands on Rip Miller Field, Oscar company “about faced” to front the parents and offered us a salute of our very own!

then the funny part… the cadre “release” 27 company… and just about do the same for 28th… leaving the Oscar Can for the cadre to carry back… well 2 of them came over and couldn’t budge the thing… so they called back about 5 of the 28th plebes to come back to carry the can…releasing the rest…

and then the funny part…
the parents group (all lined up for a photo shoot) “part” down the middle to reveal a 10x10x3 ft pile of busting-filled g’bge bags that didn’t fit into the can!

it was the cadre’s turn to be caught like deer in the headlights…
all of a sudden they realized their “error” and went scrambling to call back the plebes from 27 AND 28…
everyone had to carry stuff back… and trust me, the parents out-did themselves… there was a ton of stuff to be carried back!

Later that day we got to “tour” the company area… and there, in full view, was our “Oscar” can… and a mountain of extra goodie bags that we would later find out lasted for weeks! It was a clear “hit” with the cadre and our plebes… and we were pretty proud of our “mission accomplished.”

So get creative and see what you can come up with… for us, it was a great way for parents of both the 27th and 28th “oscar” companies to meet and greet…

NAVY 2010… GREAT IDEAS! Just curious… how many parents participated for 27 and 28? How were you able to get them all together. 2011 C/6 has 14 so far… is that about what you all had? Is it expected by the Plebes that the Families will be cheering in the stands?

I believe the list of pledges I had numbered in the range of 48+ families… we even had 3 monitory donations to the “wardroom fund” (which was split between the 2 company areas) from parents that could not attend but wanted to be included in our “mission”…

the call for Oscar parents went out over the plebe-parent list serve… and we (a fellow mom and I) compiled the list… my partner in crime suggested the Tee’s… I did the design… she emailed them to everyone…

my partner set up a seperate email listing…
and we sent out (if I do say so myself!) a very “cleverly crafted” letter as to “your mission…should you decide to accept it…”…with an offer they couldn’t refuse! ;)

the idea of the garbage bags was inspired by our tee-shirt “oscar the grouch” design… thus, the can, which HAD to be filled with “garbage”… and what better “garbage” than all the “goodies” denied them all summer!
(the hardest part was fitting this 40-gallon garbage can—with oscar— into the car for the trip down to Annapolis… and still managing to get the other “grouches” from our family into the car as well!)

what i did do to prevent “too much of a good thing” and not enough “variety” was to come up with a suggested list of items… ie…"skittles, power bars, granola bars, life savors, beef jerkey… all the way to other things like “disposable camera, shout wipes, bleach/tide pens”…

parents were free to choose from the list as to what they were pledging… all I asked was for them to email me back so I could update the list (which I ended up doing at the end of each day)… I also “added” to the list items that parents suggested on their own…

in the end we had everything not only covered, but some duplicates of some items…parents were very innovative as well, including who was close enough to transport 80 of a “large” item and what was small enough to fit “80 into a suitcase for the plane”…
the generosity of the parents was amazing!

If I can, I will post the pictures that appeared on dropshots of our “Oscar Parents” and “Oscar’s Can”…

(you might have to look closely for Oscar!)…

we had a blast doing this…
and as mentioned, we did a similiar thing for Herndon… only this time the 27th company parents joined forces with tee-shirts specifically designed for “27th Company- Bringing the Pain”… ;)

^^^^^
just want to add a “thankyou” to “usnamom10” for posting these pics…!!!

THANKS NAVY2010! I am sharing and quoting your message for my C/6 group to read!! I appreciate it.

Has Friday morning’s PEP for PPW been cancelled? It does not appear on the PPW schedule…

It has been cancelled as a separate parent’s event.

does this mean that they will have PEP as scheduled, but parents are not invited? if that is the case, it could have to do with the shuttle transportation from the stadium not starting until 6:30.

How sad. Looks like there is no Reaffirmation of the Oath of Office following Dress Parade Sat. either! I thought that was one of the nicest events of the weekend last year.

As most of the plebes will want to get off the yard in a hurray it was nice having a couple of organized Plebe events where we could see the plebes while with their squads. Looks like all 2011 gets are Noon Formation and a Parade.

Guess the past few years of family friendly is being thrown to the wind.

Presumably.
My understanding is that PEP will be held as on any other day and you can see it as any member of the public can.

No raffirmation? Dismissed immediately after the parade?

HERE IS THE LETTER I WAS FORWADED THROUGH EMAIL…

Dear Plebe parents and veteran parents/?Parent’s Club Officers

I want to keep you abreast of? a change from previous years PPW schedule. In an effort to maintain a more focused training environment PEP will not be a scheduled event for PPW this year. You may attend as a member of the public, but there will not be extra bleachers, music etc. It will be a normal training evolution.

I know that many of you are planning signs of support/T shirts etc. My recommendation will be to wear those at the parade on Saturday where??they will fit in with the spirit of the event.

One of the things that can be hard to get used?to is change-which is why Semper Gumby(always flexible ) is the motto of every USNA parent. Parent’s Clubs please help spread the word regarding this change in policy.

On a different note today I saw the Class of 2011 being photographed for their class picture forming the 2011. It was a beautiful day-much lower humidity-and not a cloud in the sky. That is a big contrast?to yesterday when a sudden thunderstorm drenched?many Plebes and their Cadre. Tomorow is the first official parade-and it will almost time for the second phone call on Sunday. You have a lot?to look forward to.

I got a sneakin’ suspension that a lot of mama’s and daddy’s will still show up for PEP on that Friday morning.

Better parking, views for the other activities for us!

I’m starting to get excited! I love the pics on Dropshots. God bless those parents!
