Poll: What math sequence were you in for school?

8th Grade: Algebra 1
9th Grade: Geometry, Algebra 2/Trig.
10th Grade: Math Analysis, AP Statistics
11th Grade: AP Calculus BC
In between: Multivariable Calculus, Differential Equations
12th Grade: AP Computer Science

6th: MathScape 1
7th: MathScape 2
8th: Algebra 1
9th: Semester 1: Geometry, Semester 2: Algebra 2
10th: Honors Discrete Algebra (equivalent to precalc)
11th: Honors Algebra 3 (equivalent to lowest calculus class)
12th: Honors Multivariable Calculus AND AP Statistics (doubling up)

7th: Algebra I
8th: Algebra II honors
summer: Geometry
9th: precalculus
10th: calculus BC AP
11th: calc 3 honors, and linear algebra
12th: diffeq, and maybe topology, or abstract algebra, or someting else.

The lowest calculus class is typically calculus I. You need calculus II before taking multivariable. 0_o

6th: Calculus BC (took at high school)
7th: Multivariable Calculus (took at local community college)
8th: Independent Study
9th and 10th: Analytic Number Theory
11th: Independent Study
12th: Took a break from math

7 honors algebra 1a
8 honors algebra 1b
9 geometry
10 honors algebra 2
11 honors pre calc
12 ap calc bc

6th-Honors math
7th- Honors math
8th-Regular math
9th-Integrated Algebra
10th-Integrated Geometry
11th-Algebra II/Trigonometry
12th-Most likely Pre-Calc

Hey, what exactly is analytic Number Theory?

{At ironmental250}

Also aigiqinf, my multivariate class begins with Calc II that could be covered in a month or two, and the Calc III stuff doesn’t take any entire year to do, either. So the course could be called Honors MVC. Same way that AP Calc AB is truly a lot of Math Analysis (uh, precalc) before you get into any solidly or exclusively calculus topics. I know that at my school’s AB class, 3 months in, kids still don’t know what an indefinite integral is.

8th - Algebra I
9th - Geometry, Algebra II/Trig (I doubled up on math credits this year)
10th - Pre-Calculus
11th - AP Calculus AB
12th - AP Calculus BC

6th- advanced math
7th- pre algebra
8th- algebra I
9th- geometry
10th- algebra II
11th- college algebra, pre-cal
12th- calculus, trig

EDIT: i am currently a sophomore.

7th - Pre-Algebra
8th - Algebra I
9th - Geometry
10th - Algebra II
11th - College Algebra/Trig
12th - Pre-Calc Honors

@ironmental250: Nice you’ve done Analytic Number Theory, pretty cool stuff!
Analytic Number theory uses analysis to solve number theory problems.

Grade: Course (+approx years ahead)
5th: Pre-Algebra (+1)
6th: Algebra I (+1)
7th: Geometry (+1)
8th: Algebra 2 (+1)
Between 8 & 9th: Trigonometry (+1)
9th: AP Calculus BC (+2)
10th: AP Statistics (+? not sure, people take it any year they want)
Between 10 & 11th: Linear Algebra (+2)
11th: Multivariable Calculus (+2 or 3)
12th: Abstract Algebra (+3 or 4?)/Real Analysis (+3 or 4?)/Putnam Competition Class (+?)

6th Grade: Math Enrichment (standard one was “Math 6”)
Then you take a test to determine your placement (either Algebra I, Pre-Algebra, or Pre-Algebra Topics… Pre-Algebra leads to Algebra I in 8th grade, while Pre-Algebra Topics leads to Pre-Algebra Extensions in 8th grade, then Algebra I 9th grade)
7th Grade: Algebra I
8th Grade: Geometry H (it wasn’t technically H, but it went along with the high school H course)
9th Grade: Algebra II H
10th Grade: Pre-Calculus H

11th is hopefully AP Calculus BC, then 12th Grade will be either AP Prob/Stat, Calc III/Diff Eq H, or maybe even both if I double up.

Calc III???

wow

for my senior year I’m taking Calc BC.

11th was pre-calc.

what school or state do you attend?

I’m in NJ.

Yeah, the Precalc classes are 10/11 graders (with the occasional 12), and then you can choose either AB or BC. AB has a helluva rep for the teacher, so everyone tries to do BC. However with the two Precalc teachers, one of them lets whoever do BC, while the other one actually says no to some people & makes them take AB (unless they improve.)

And Calc III/Diff Eq you can take if you get a 3+ on the BC Exam. Its taught by the AP teacher, but he’s actually supposed to be good for that class (just not for AB :P)

Today I got notification I qualify for summer undergraduate housing at a state university. (There’s no one close enough for me to commute to.)

This may change but this should be my new math sequence:
8th grade: Algebra I
-Summer in between Geometry online
9th grade Algebra II online and Pre-cal online
10th grade AP Calculus BC online
Summer: Multivariable Calculus, Linear Algebra, Differential Equations, Modern Algebra (Possibly)
11th grade: Who knows?
12th: Who knows?

LOL Next semester my school will be offering its version of Algebra II for the first time.

Seventh- Algebra I
Eighth- Geometry
Ninth- Algebra II/Trig
Tenth- Math Methods I (precalc)

Probably…
Eleventh- Methods II (calc AB)
Twelfth- Calc BC

I was a year ahead of the average in IL.

7th: Pre-Algebra
8th: Algebra I
9th: Algebra II
10th: Geometry
11th: Accelerated Math Analysis (Pre-calc/start of honors track)
12th: AP Calc AB

I’m pretty much the same as ElectricTech.

bumping due to renewed interest in high school math sequences
