Positive Impact Essay Prompt for UVA

The prompt states, “UVA students are charged with pushing the boundaries of knowledge to serve others and contribute to the common good. Give us an example of how you’ve used what you’ve learned to make a positive impact in another person’s life”.

I was thinking about writing an experience I have had from my church. If I learned something from the experience and have applied it to life as a whole would this be adequate for this prompt? Or is it strictly referring to something more direct like, “I learned CPR and then saved someones life”.

Or would it be better to adapt what I learned into an overall message that could be tied to the bridge prompt?

While being a model of something as you walk through life is certainly a positive way to make an impact, it seems to me the prompt would ask that you be able to relate very specifically an instance where you know that there was a valuable and recognizable impact on another because of a deliberate action or behavior of yours.

So, taking the lesson from church, characterizing that lesson and describing how you implemented what you learned meaningfully, such that someone else found their day/life improved/strengthened/more capably approached/happier, etc.
