Post Offices Are Closed Tues. 1/2/07

The Post Office website has a press release up saying that post offices will be closed on Tuesday, Jan. 2nd, in memory of President Ford.

If you are planning to MAIL your application, you need to do it today. Few if any post offices are open on Sundays or on New Year’s Day. Many close early on Saturdays. If you are planning to mail, get on the phone now and triple check the hours your post office will be open.

If this means that you are going to have to file online, be aware that websites often get flooded towards the absolute deadline. Plan to try to get it in earlier than that.

Good luck. Don’t panic, but do get right on top of this.

and if you’re desperate, you can always FedEx/UPS it in, overnight or 2-day at this point (they too wont deliver Monday, but will Sunday/Tuesday)

^^I believe UVA says they don’t accept overnight shipping.
When is the paper deadline? if the postmark deadline is Jan 2nd then I doubt UVA would penalize you because the post office closure was out of your hands (of course I’m not an official authority on this).

Call the office when it opens.

Read that…Dean J also stresses what Grace says about submitting it at 11:59 PM on Jan 1st

I submitted three college applications late (including my app to UVA) and was accepted at all three schools.

If they don’t take your application because it’s postmarked on 1/3 instead of 1/2, then trust me you don’t want to go there.

I know several people who sent in “late” (1 or 2 days) applications to UVA and were admitted. Keep in mind that an application send from CA on 1/2 will get there after an application sent from the East Coast on 1/3.
