Love UChicago’s new essay questions.

i have a brady bunch song stuck in my head.

^^They are?

^wait, me?

Well, here they are:

Essay Option 1: Find x.
Inspired by Benjamin Nuzzo, an admitted student from Eton College, UK

Essay Option 2: Dog and Cat. Coffee and Tea. Great Gatsby and Catcher in the Rye. Everyone knows there are two types of people in the world. What are they?
Inspired by an alumna of the Class of 2006

Essay Option 3: Salt, governments, beliefs, and celebrity couples are a few examples of things that can be dissolved. You’ve just been granted the power to dissolve anything: physical, metaphorical, abstract, concrete… you name it. What do you dissolve, and what solvent do you use?
Inspired by Greg Gabrellas, A.B. 2009

Essay Option 4: “Honesty is the best policy, but honesty won’t get your friend free birthday cake at the diner.” - Overheard in the city of Chicago.

Does society require constant honesty? Why is it (or why is it not) problematic to shift the truth in one’s favor, even if the lie is seemingly harmless to others? If we can be “conveniently honest,” what other virtues might we take more lightly?
Inspired by Eleanor Easton, a second-year in the College

Thank you xavier for posting them:

Common App accounts get erased soon right?

I like that one. Very similar to the vague essay questions that my lit. teacher gives us. I’m gonna miss those =[

The “Find x” cartoon was on the wall of my physics classroom. I’ll miss that too :(.

Bravo to Ben Nuzzo. lulz

^ I had an idea for that prompt immediately after I read it, currently rambling away on MS Word lol.

[Can you name the variants of the name ‘John’ by language? - sporcle](Variants of John Quiz)

^^haha, how is it going :)?

Reads like some crazy rambling, but I’m liking the general idea.

Well, that’s at least a good- and very early- start. I think I recycled one of my other college essays for UChicago. Incredibly, I managed to fit the existing essay to one of the prompts after some heavy editing… I got too lazy writing all these essays by Dec 30th.

I didn’t plan on starting until mid July, but I liked the ideas that came to my head after reading the prompt. What’s the character limit on this essay?

500? I don’t think there’s a strict word limit. I’ve been trying to see whether the essay topics are posted on the admissions website. For some reason I’m not finding it, which is odd…
