this is probably a dumb question, but when they say that the postmark deadline is 10/1, does that mean you must send it in by 10/1, or that the latest you can send it is 10/1?

bump…

it means that it has to be mailed by that day

If you decide to mail it 10/1—be sure to get it certified–so you have proof it went out by the deadline.

If getting in to UVA matters to you, you ought to prioritize the app and its components and not let the postmark deadline become an issue.

But then again who isnt a procastinator? ;)

The postmark is the ink stamp next to the physical stamp on an envelope. If you are going to mail something on the deadline day (which I don’t recommend), take it physically to the counter at the post office and have it stamped. Dropping it in a mailbox may not get it stamped on that day.

And since the 1st is a Sunday, make sure you get it into the counter before their Saturday closing, and get it physically stamped, as Dean J says. Different post offices have different collection times as well - you can, for example, take it to a regional center later than the last collection from a neighborhood post office, and still get it postmarked. Call the post office if you really think you’re in trouble, they may be able to help - but you’ll have to call during business hours. Seriously, save yourself the stress, and get it done Friday, at the counter.

I mailed three of my apps in late - and still got into those schools. You should apply online, though.

Wait…What was due on October 1st?

I know the fine arts supplement was.
