Postseason Baseball 2010

Our firm has Rangers season tickets. I don’t envy the guy who decides who gets tickets to the next game(s).

So great to see John Smoltz doing commentary on TBS today! Just love him. What a great guy!

To the Cubs fans, Mike Quade was the Triple A Iowa Cubs manager for years. They frequently played our New Orleans Zephyrs, and he was a heck of a manager. Great guy, too.

I am pulling for Sandberg to make it up there. I think it’s great how he’s been working his way up the minor leagues to earn the job. Very humble, nice man, who was very gracious to the Triple A fans when he came through this year as the I Cubs manager.

Our two hometown boys, Fontenot and Theriot, have left the Cubs, and we are so thrilled to see Fontenot playing for the Giants in the NLCS.

I see the Yankees are starting CC and have my boy Lance at first, so I’m rooting for the Yankees today, even though I love my Rangers.

This is like the Super Bowl for me. I love my Saints, but if Peyton with the Colts had won, our town would have celebrated, too.

With Lance on the Yankees, the underdog Rangers, Lincecum and Fontenot on the Giants, and Little Roy and Brad with the Phillies, it’s a win-win situation in our household.

missy, keep peace in the family and give them to me.

If you promise to send me at least $750,000 in legal business next year, we might have a shot (but maybe not.)

Glad to see that CC is pitching great today so far. And the Yankees have scored 3 runs, helped out by a few walks.

Wait, YES, a home run by Swisher!!! Can the Yankees really start hitting again??

Wait, Yes!!! Cano goes deep. Back to back home runs!!! Yankees lead 5-0.

So, will they win this game just to get my hopes up and earn a trip back to Texas and Lee???

When I saw CC pitching today, I knew Yankees were going to win. Glad to see the bats coming alive. Alas, they will have to make a trip back to Texas and face Lee, so I think we’re in for the long haul.

At least we’re having some exciting games this year for the playoffs!

missypie and YDS,

You have no idea what suffering is. We Cub fans are pictured next to the word in the dictionary.

Now that Quade is the manager, the talk is that Sandberg is really ticked he didn’t get the job, and lots of people are wondering why they didn’t wait to see Girardi/Yankee plans.
I think money came into play, as the Cubs are hurting from all the expensive and terrible signings over the last several years.
I don’t know when I’ll go to another game. The last one I went to was in '09, the night an idiot threw beer on Shane Victorino. It was the first night game we attended, but that night really poisoned me. Then they traded my three favorites-D. Lee, Fontenot and Theriot.

OT-- I thought Haley Swindal did a great job the other night. I have had the pleasure to meet a few of GS’s grandchildren, including her, as they went to the same bs as my D. All really nice people.

Don’t count us out yet. One homer down, more to go!

Sorry to hear Sandberg is upset. It may be possible Quade is just being tested, and Sandberg will be waiting in the wings. Our Triple A team was the farm team for the Marlins, and our manager took the place of the Marlin’s manager when he got fired, even though our guy was a really terrible manager. I think the Marlins just wanted to give their manager another chance before making a big move. May be the same with the Cubs.

But there’s a lot of vacancies for MLB managers this year, with Bobby Cox retiring, Torre leaving Dodgers, and there are probably more out there that I don’t know about.

Either way, Sandberg is an awesome manager. It was great to watch him with the Triple A players. He would take the time to give them pointers on their batting and always gave them a reassuring pat when they came off the field. We luckily play the I Cubs eight times a year, and it was quite a thrill to see Sandberg this year. I made very game, day or night.

Glad to hear you like my boys Theriot and Fontenot. Great guys.

Sorry, I derailed the thread into a Cubs thread. But you know, us Cubs fans can only experience the postseason vicariously through other teams!

Man, this Yankees/Rangers game is a nailbiter tonight! This is an awesome postseason this year!

The Yankees looked like the Yankees tonite.

Thank you CC (Sabathia that is!)

Yea, no doubt with CC on the mound, Yankees going to win. And our old Cub, Kerry Wood! Looking forward to another Lee/Pettite matchup!

An exciting night for baseball tonight! Giants beat the Phillies, even though Little Roy came in to close out the game.

I am hoping for a Rangers/Giants World Series. I think that would make for an exciting matchup!

Ditto. Go Giants!!

Blah. Putting in a starter to close the game…hmmm…the Phillies are making some strange decisions here. Don’t count em out yet though…

Giving Little Roy a little humility there. Even the best of them get a loss.

Am so excited about tonight’s matchup: Lincecum versus Halladay.

Lincecum is so cute, in a little boy way. Every time I see him, I just want to get the scissors out and give that boy a haircut! But maybe he’s like Samson. If he cuts his haircut, he’ll lose his power!

My gfather worked for the Phillies organization for many years and I spent half my childhood at the old Veterans Stadium, so I can’t help but root my Phillies on.

And in a lame tie-in to the topic of college, I just want to point out that I went to college with and knew (at the friend-of-a-friend level) Joe Girardi - NU '86.

Pizzagirl, you must be a ‘youngin’. Although I, too, spent a lot of time at games at the Vet, I also remember my dad taking us to games at Connie Mack Stadium.

Another vote for Rangers/Giants here…

Lincecum can’t cut his hair, and Brian Wilson can’t shave his beard either - there is actually a Facebook group dedicated to the beard (I swear he colors it with that black stuff they put under their eyes!)

Oh, that Brian Wilson guy is too much! It looks like he’s got some kind of mohawk under there. Where did he come from, or is he just unrecognizable now from his old self?

No, I would not cut Lincecum’s hair. It is his trademark. The mom in me just goes nuts when I see him. But he is such a cutie!

Ha, shows how much I know. Just did a google search on Brian Wilson and saw he came from LSU, my state flagship. I’ve probably seen him play at the college level. His look has changed quite a bit, though, even from the start of the year. Love those baseball superstitions!
