Burnett inspires fear in Yankees fans because, according to NPR, it’s been about 65 years since the Yankees had a pitcher with a regular-season ERA over 5 start a post-season game (and the last one got shelled). And the Yankees have never had a pitcher with a losing record who lost 15 games start in the post-season. Given that the Rangers have been pretty successful against the Yankees’ good pitchers, Yankees fans have to be a little apprehensive about seeing what they will do to a mediocre one (this year, at least).

My teams are the Red Sox, Phillies and anyone the Yankees are playing.

I fell asleep watching the Yankees/Rangers when the Rangers were up 5-0. I woke up, did not even open my eyes and heard the annoying announcer exclaiming:
“the Newwww Yorrrrrrrrrrk Yankeeeeeeees have come from behind in a 5-0 deficit to tie the game and the go ahead run is nine-tyyyyyy feeeet awayyyyyyyyy.”
I clicked off and put a pillow over my head and went back to sleep. Ugh.
I was so pleased to wake up to the 8-0 victory as I was nervous falling asleep in the bottom of the eighth with the Rangers ahead 2-0.

Big night for Cole Hamels tonight! I was pleased to see that Jimmy Rollins has decided to play ball again and found his bat.

I wish the Phillies still had Lee, but I guess they couldn’t afford to have them all.
I hope Rollins keeps hitting.

My teams are anyone playing the Phillies or Yankees. I"m suddenly the biggest fan in the world of the Giants and Rangers.

garland and JustAMom, the Rangers tent is a big tent. Welcome!

A nurse this morning explained to me that Burnett used to be good, then he started hitting people and the question now is which AJ will show up tonight. I say wear extra padding, boys, and take one for the team! I’m going to have to miss the game tonight because we don’t have cable and I’ll be at a mtg during part of it. I’ve been going to bars all postseason; I can’t decide whether to keep up my streak.

Woohooooooo!!

what is post season baseball? i grew up a cub fan and i know not of which you speak…and probably never will now…who the heck is mike quade and how did he get the job over ryne sandberg?

no more cub baseball for me…

Somehow, this is going as planned. I wanted the Yanks and Phils again! Phils still have a shot (I hope) but the Yanks looks like they’re going home. Cliff Lee is a gem - we miss him here in Philly!

Ah, yes. Last night was the kind of baseball a Mets fan lives for (we certainly didn’t expect it from our own team…)

I am currently at batting practice so I can go help the Phillies.

Umm, no sympathy from the Rangers fans…there’s never been a post-season before!

This has probably been posted earlier in this thread, but the Rangers spent most of the year in bankruptcy and there was a big fight over who would buy them. So glad that Nolan Ryan ended up with them…fun to see him on TV having so much fun.

I love Nolan Ryan! Probably the best thrown “first pitch” ever.

Phillies fans - No Need to Panic!!! nervous laugh

Rangers!!! Yay! I would love to see Cliff Lee pitch in Philly again in the World Series.

MOWC, having seen pictures of you, let me say that you’d look pretty darned good in the uniform!

(Last night I was pondering why baseball managers wear the team uniform and other coaches don’t. My D was in stitches thinking about the school volleyball coach wearing those tiny spandex shorts. [Not even gonna think about M

wbow, I feel your pain watching the hopelessly underachieving Cowboys this year.

But, yeah, when it comes to baseball no one has had it worse than Rangers fans. missypie, you were close – this isn’t our first time in the postseason. Why we’ve been there THREE whole other times  But it’s the first time we ever won a series in the postseason, first time we won a home game in the postseason, maybe the first time we ever beat the Yankess in postseason. fingers crossed

The only thing Cubs fans have over us is that the Rangers have only been in existence since the '70s, so we just haven’t had the TIME to become as miserable as Cubs fans. ;)

ETA: I do hope Ron Washington wins manager of the year. He’s pulled through his problems from early in the seaso. and the front office mgmt has been great, making key trades to get guys with playoff experience to support all the young, inexperienced guns. This is just such a change from years past. Amazing.

Thanks, Missypie. I got to hit in the batting cage at AT&T Park a few years ago at a legal conference event. I was stunningly terrible- and the batting helmet felt like it weighed 20 pounds.

Phillies fan here. Not worried yet…but if the Phils don’t win tonight, I will be worried.

I think Blanton will be okay. But the team needs to score runs!

Youdon’tsay is being kind to me because she knows that I’m not an actual Rangers fan, but I’m trying.

It’s been nice to watch baseball on TV of late…it’s been YEARS since I watched baseball on TV…reminds me of my dad, watching the Cardinals. He’d watch on TV, with the sound down, with the radio on because the commentary was better.

I just remember growing up what a HUGE deal the world series was…folks would carry around their transistor radios to listen.

I think Blanton will do just fine tonight. But those Phils need to HIT. So frustrating when their bats go quiet – seems all of them go south at once (except for Chooch that is…and I really can’t complain about JROLL).

Perhaps Utley could fake another HBP…
